I made the mistake of buying morrowind and Gothic at the same time (gift certificate) and now I have to decide which to play first. The start of both games are pretty cool, so that's not helping any. I take it from the general discussion that Gothic would be eaiser to complete first? Maybe I'll go with that. I guess it's good to have problems like this.

And gig, just wait until Gothic II and III comes out, and then you can have three games by Pirahna in your top five.

I think starting with Gothic would be in order as it's rather shortish compared to the unending Morrowind.

start with mw, and then when you play gothic you're be stunned by the framerate speed of the latter game
but seriously, start with gothic, it's doable in 2 days of constant play (my example) and then you can submerge yourself for months in the great world of MW

You are not going to finish Gothic in 2 days on your first time through.

Realistic is 50 hours +/- 20 hours depending on playing style. Two complete playing days sounds correct to me.

Gorath, A normal person does not play computer computer games 15-20 hours a day. So I say again....you will not finish Gothic in 2 days.

Wait, I'm sorry. You meant 2 days total playing time right? Not 2 straight days. My mistake.

Thanks for all the great feedback. You've helped me make up my bloody mind and I'm going with gothic first. The first 45 minutes already sucked me in pretty good. Again, thanks for the help.

GOTHIC took away some of the impact of MW for me. Don't judge it by the demo. I freaked the first time I was able to travel the blocked off areas. I'm as excited about GOTHIC 2 as I was about MW. However, the more I fiddle with MW the more I like it. I say "fiddle with" because I'm waiting on a serious patch before getting serious with the game. I hope they make the combat system more complex. It's not bad as it is but should've been better. Frame rates stink too (yada yada yada). DS is a good diversion but hardly compares with MW or GOTHIC. Lucas Arts Desktop Adventures with better graphics!

I preferred the LA Desktop Adventures to DS (seriously).

I have to say I hated Gothic at first because of the interface and lack of proper documentation in the manual. But once I got into it, and was able to fly via spells, it was a blast. I've got it on my play again list. It has the advantage over Morrowind in that interface issues aside, the game runs very smoothly.

You can't fly with any spell in Gothic. Unless you know something that I don't, which is unlikely considering that I played through Gothic as a mage.

Type 'smarvins' or 'bmarvinb', then 'F6' to free the camera, and you're flying... 'F4' to return to a fixed camera angle.

I have to admit that I misjudged Morrowind at first. Now that the game has finally started to progress it's a lot of fun. I still hate the combat though. I don't think it's simple at all, not even with "Always use best attack" turned on.
