I miss this game.

You know. I played it twice with different roles each time and I quite enjoy it. I keep trying to find a game that's like it or like Gothic. I bought NWN but am not impressed. Any suggestions?

What about an Arx 2? Is that seriously in the make?

Arx 2

It is coming, but there is no time frame yet. If anyone else knows of a game that fits between Gothic and Arx, I'd like to know too. These are my favorites as well. Hope someone has a suggestion!

Gothic 2 is due for release in a week or two in most of the English market. NWN is fun if you play MP, or some of the better mods. There are also some good mod remakes of old classic games, like EOB, and U4.

If it has to be a Fantasy CRPG I'd say Ultima Underworld 2 or Ultima 9. For similare atmosphere you might try Thief I and II, System Shock I and II , or Deus Ex.

Thanks

I trust your judgment more than some of the game reviews I've read.

Vhoa . Time for us to feel honored. *bows*
They modeled Arx after the UU games, and they did it quite well. The Underworld games are really old now, however, and you better had a really old computer (pre-pentium) to run them on. Gothic, on the other hand, looks a lot like U9 but has a better atmosphere.
The Thief games are mission-based sneakers (like the newer Splinter Cell which is worth checking out too if you like stealth games - but it sure is not like Arx or Gothic at all ), but look and feel a lot like Arx.
The first System Shock was a brilliant game though not really reminiscent of one of the others since it's SF (besides, it's really old now, those ancient looks may not be for everyone, but it was scary!), but System Shock II, Thief II and Deus Ex were rather similar in parts... somel levels of those three fused in my memory, I never know which one was from which game. Deus Ex may not be a pure-strain RPG and animation could have been better, but you sure do have a lot of freedom of action, and the characters and atmosphere are great.
As for NWN as corwin recommended, it's real but isometric 3D and thus not as immersive as the others.
Outcast would be another recommendation though it is even more of an adventure than Gothic is. The engine is voxel-based, and I don't get it to run on my computer anymore, regardless of OS .

Corwin, if you're teasing you will be skinned and dropped in a vat of salt. I like you. You've been very kind and helpful to me but I'm serious! You will be severely punished if you jest!!!

Are you serious?

@Jaz: Thanks for the tips! I keep hearing about Outcast and Theif. I will certainly look into those games, specially if cor is fibbing!

Corwin's right, English language GII has been released in Israel and the Netherlands by now, and this Friday will see its UK release. Don't miss out on Gothic II if you liked the first one.

T, you and I will still have to wait awhile longer though. They just put the Aussie release back to next month and the US release is about the same. or later, though you can probably get it from some online sources earlier. I NEVER lie!!
