Being relatively new to the whole PC-gaming world, I was shocked to learn that Morrowind is but one of a long-line of games based in the same world. I have seen some screenshots of Daggerfall and although it looks very basic I wouldn't mind giving it a go.
I currently have a top-end rig and wondered if Daggerfall would actually run okay on it - lots of other older games refuse to even install. Has anyone played the game on their (high-spec) PC? I don't want to hunt high and low for this game only to find it doesn't even work.

How about the other games? Anyone recommend any of them?

Let's start with Arena. That's the first game in the line and it won't run on your PC. At least not under XP. It was decent at its time but nothing spectacular.
No. 2 was Daggerfall which hates XP as well but runs quite well under NT, '98 and older OSs. If you don't mind a 20 MB bugfix which still didn't fix all bugs, the outdated graphics and tossing your comp back into the middle ages (OS-wise), this might be a game for you. I liked it a lot; the world is a lot bigger than that of Morrowind. So are the dungeons. There are about 5,000 settlements in Daggerfall, and there's a lot of randomness involved.
The No. 3 game set in the same universe was Battlespire which is more of an action game than anything else. It doesn't run under XP. Well. I never played it (I happened to miss it when it came out) but since it features lots of Dremora I'm still trying to get my hands on it .
No. 4 was Redguard which is an action adventure. For one of those it has lots of text, but you enjoy a certain degree of freedom, and it's third person (as opposed to the others I listed which are first person) - you can say Redguard has a bit in common with Gothic. I never tested if it runs under XP, however. It definitely does run under '98 though.

If you can, definately give Daggerfall a shot. While it is dated now, I think it was the best of the TES series all things considered. There are alot of bugs...but I still think it was a better game than Morrowind.

I almost forgotten that i have played Battlespire several years ago. It seem long time ago. It's true Battlespire pretty well like action/FPS game, and that's why i bought the game in the first place. The memorable character (for me) of enemies in Battlespire is Scamp, which i think i killed truckload of them. Before death they will scream pretty much same as in MW.
