Question about the new guilds in NOTR

So apparently there are four new guilds made available in NOTR.
I'm just wondering if these are 'full' guilds in their own right, like the three offered in the original, or are these supplimentary guilds that you can belong to while at the same time being a merc, pally, or mage?

You have to select one of the 3 "normal" main guilds from Gothic 2, but you can cooperate with the watermages (ring of water, you will get a special armour), the pirates (also new armour), and the bandits (also new armour) at the same time.

Just now I do not remember a fourth "new" guild. Maybe someone else can help, I played the NOTR last year.

It's pretty useless belonging to another guild and there's no freedom of choice, you have to join the watremages and the bandits, the only choice is if you want to join the pirates. No wait you have to join them too because you need bandits armor.

Right Yamcha, instead of writing "you can cooperate" I should have written "you must ...", that would have been clearer. Even if I would have had the freedom of choice, I would have joined all of them

There is nothing that "linear" when it comes to these guilds. There are no pirate guild or bandit guild. You can join - and for the add-on story, actually HAVE TO join - the Circle of Water supplementary guild, which is like the thieves guild in Khorinis, i.e. secondary guild.

You do not join pirates in any way. Simply at some point, the Greg will give you the armor and tell "You're one of us now", but it's not a 'guild' thing, but more like a 'friend' thing, which means that the pirates now trust you and help if they can. You get their armor, yes, but you don't get anything special due to it, all what you can now do in their camp is something what you could do before anyway. As for bandits, then you don't join with them under any condition. You simply need to wear their armor in order to get to them, into their camp, so consider it more like a "dress-up" action.

Thus, basically, there's only one secondary guild, which came with the add-on, whom you have to join, that's the "Circle of Water". Of course, it's more story line driven joining as such, it doesn't give you any considerable benefit anyway, just some small bonuses, just like with the thieves guild in Khorinis.

That is why I have described it as "cooperation" in my first reply. In the bandits camp I felt more or less like an undercover agent. Anyway, I like how these "guilds" are arranged, I have had a lot of fun there.

Okay, I get it. Thanks people.

The reason I stated that there are FOUR new guilds is because the game manual for NOTR says that there are four new guilds.- Water Mage, Circle of Water, Pirates, and Bandits. That much I got out of it anyway, after all, the thing is in German, so I was limited in my understanding of it.

Forget about the water mages you can't join them in any way. There are only some new watermage spells like Thunderstorm and Geyser. That's all
