The quote is from the last part of a four part series I did. The quote is in the last sentence right here.

Beyond Divinity Demo

The demo was awesome, a tad short though. I found moving objects a pain, they were pretty picky, the character tried to run there alot. I also found it hard to attack sometimes. About the voice, I agree just the voice itself is too monotone. I had a history teacher like that (4 hour nap man) but I can live with it because everything else is 'Beyond' anything else on the rpg market today.

To block the cogwheel in the arena. Drag and drop it on the cogwheel. Then you can pick up the armor and sword and the doors will not open.

My theory on the voice acting is that they new it was never going to be good, so they embraced bad. Larian is based out of Belgium I think. How many localized versions of English games have bad voice acting? I have no idea, but I'm guessing its not the quality we have known.

The voice acting in this demo so far makes ToEE look like they hired the greatest voice acters in the world. When something is that bad it has to be known by the developers that it is bad. At first I thought it was just bad voice acting also, but every vioce, every single one I have heard in the demo, is comedic and corny. If 100% of the voices are comidic and corny then I really have a hard time accepting that it was not done purposefully.

Did you see Jason X? If you watch that as a horror movie it is the worst movie ever made. If you watch it as a comedy it might be considered a comic masterpiece. It all depends on how you look at it. If I thought for one second that there was a voice director in a set that said, "And Cut! That was beautiful, you totally captured the essense of what it is to be a head torturer. That was an award winning performance. Thank you, thats a wrap," I would not be able to sleep at night and might consider suicide.

But the thing is, I don't find the voices to be comedic and corny. Well maybe the imps and some of the other characters a little bit. But certainly not the death knight who does the majority of the talking. The first one had some great comedic and corny voices and I loved it. But the death knight voice isn't corny at all, he's just emotionless and dull. And he's such a cool character, if he were voiced in the usual DD style it would have been great.

If you really want to see a game that does an amazing job an intentionaly bad voice acting in some parts you should try Freedom Force. Now there was a game with some classic intentionaly bad voice acting, and it was extremely in flavor for the genre.
