would you please turn caps lock off? in a petty soul gem you can put only a rat or a nix hound. you probably need a common soul gem, i dont know for sure.

Petty soul gems hold the least of souls (I think shalks give the greatest value=300 with cliff racers=200?). I have yet to find a soul that fits inside a lesser soul gem , I'm level 56, and have loads of souls stored away (and loads of empty lesser soul gems). A common soul gem holds flame antronachs=4200. Greater soul gems hold storm antronachs(9900?) and ogrims=9900. Grand souls gems are best saved for golden saints=80,000 and ascended sleepers=80,000. That's my advice on the best souls for each gem. If I'm incorrect on some values, somebody please correct me.

I can't help you with the summoning problem. I've always found that capturing souls in the wild is effective and a fun challenge.

*SPOILER* If you make a soul trap spell at the mage's guild or temple, there's a way to capture souls AFTER a monster is dead. Set the range to touch and duration=1. When you have defeated a monster, stand over it so its name appears on the screen and cast your simple soul trap spell. It's a cheat, but a nice one when you don't have to juggle magic and weapons clumsily during combat.

You can no longer soultrap a creature after death, or as many times as you want. Danged patch.
Good thing I already had that stack of golden saint soul gems up to my waist.

I created a ring that shoots out a soultrap, for 50ft, which lasts for about 3-4 minutes. Plenty of time to carnage everyone.
