When I said sluggish, I meant the movement and combat system, not the system requirements. Those two were, imho, done poorly from the start, and had made it to the second sequel since the engine was reused. The news that they are going to establish those two first in Gothic 3 made my day, to tell you the truth. |

I recommend you guys believe the native German speakers in this.

Es ist also eher unerheblich, welcher der genannten Kandidaten in Teilen in unsere Engine einfließt, da man diesen im Endeffekt ohnehin nicht wiedererkennen würde.
Cairo's statement on the issue is certainly very cautious, but if you read between the lines it becomes rather, if not entirely, clear that they are working with an established engine. What he is saying here is that it he will not tell which third-party engine ('which', no 'ifs'!) they are using since they are so heavily reworking it that its roots would not be recognizeable in the final game. I surmise that by withholding the name of the actual engine he does not want to create expectations associated with the chosen engine since those likely will not hold true due to the reworking. Either that or they have to wait for the engine deal to be final before disclosing anything about it. |

Why such a fuss about which engine they are using, I just want to see what they're doing with it.
I just hope they improve the combat system, create larger and even more beautiful worlds and make a good story and...

I have to strongly disagree there. The Cry Engine is the most efficient engine I have seen in a loooooong time. I have a 2 year old PC that I run it on with everything set to full and @ 1280 x 1024 and it runs as smooth as silk all the time.
The unreal engine works pretty well too, the only thing I can say about it is that UT2K4 takes 2.5 minutes to load a level on my machine (Ridiculous, no?) and Far Cry takes a lot less. Considering the size of the levels in Far Cry compared to UT, I would say that speaks for itself.
P.S. The far cry engine runs far better on my machine than the Gothic engine ever did. _________________ IMHO my opinion is humble |
