Morrowind problem. Maybe XP?

Hello.

I have ben having some strange problems with Morrowind. It seems that when I go to run it the screen blanks out and starts the music, then it crashes back to desktop leaving empty window frames, freezing my machine until i kill the process.

Now if I run the game under 98 compatabilty mode I can play, but it has a slow response time which gets worse after a reload or two. Then if i go to quite my machine locks and I have to do a reset.

Specs are

Athlon 1.2
640 mgs ram PC 133
Asus Nvidia GF3 Ti 200 64 mgs with Detonator 28.32 drivers
Sound Blaster Audigy

If anyone could shed some light on this I would greatly appreciate it.

My Thanks

D

It shouldnt be XP. XP should be best OS according what Bethesda says.

Do you have newest drivers and DirectX?

If yes or if installation of new drivers will not help, then uninstall, do defragmentation and install again.

I am running DX 8.1 and the latest detonator drivers 28.32. The only thing I have not checked is Audigy drivers which I will do now. Is anyone else running the game natively under XP?

Make sure you upgrade your sound card drivers and go read the readme.txt

It has ALOT of fixes for crashes.

I couldnt either play it under XP so I boot with 98 when im playing games.
XP doesnt work as well as 98 with games on my machine.

But as I said 98 do run morrowind flawless(no crashes at all, exept a bugg i found inside a dungeon, when I jumped of the pier down to the ground I sank through the floor and down to some water ?? prettie funny)

Aha! Found it

Audigy drivers were the latest, but I ran the patches anyway. I also disabled a prg running in the background (stupid Creative Bar Task luancher) that was hiding at the top of the screen. Once I did that the game ran fine in XP and much smoother. I think there was another post somewhere that said to kill all uneeded processes to run it good in XP.

Finally I can enjoy! My thanks for the feedback!
