I remember reading that the devs scaled Gothic 2 down from what was originally intended because otherwise it simple would have taken too long to create and would have raised the requirements to play. So I think it will be not be too much bigger than Gothic 1. I think this is good. I used to think that devs should make a game as massive as possible, and that the bigger the world was the better, and then I played Morrowind. That was just too damned big! I found myself just sticking to a few towns whenever possible, and I avoided Vivee like the plague. Now I better appreciate small and medium sized worlds. I’d rather have just two or three towns with lots of intricacies than a dozen (or dozen[i]s[/] in the case of MW) with just too much information to remember. |

I hope G2 won't be too short that you could finish it on a weekend; at least it should be a little bigger or longer than G1. _________________

In my opinion , Morrowind was a huge dissapointment...very stupid NPCS..oh well..Gothic really has the quality and quantity . _________________ All for respect, all for the bread

The world of Gothic 2 is ( almost ) exactly as big as Morrowind's Vvardenfell: 25 km^2 vs. 10 sqmiles. This means that Vvardenfell is thrice as big as G1's "colony". _________________ "Time to toss the dice." Matrim Cauthon |

Well I thought the G1 world was quite sizeable. Without encounters it takes about 10 real life minutes to run from the swamp camp to the new camp, but obviously some trips can take well over an hour because of the 'local fauna'. It's difficult to compare G1 with other games because G1 world is three dimensional and one travels both horizontal and vertical. |

Gamespot's rating of G1 at 7.2 is certainly pretty low. Don't know what they said since it's locked (for subscriber only). Personally i would give the game rating at 8.0 or a little more... I usually won't buy a games that get lower rating than 8.0 from several reviewers.
I think one of the main problems of G1 is combat control & inventory system which heavily dependence of keyboard instead of more intuitive mouse. There is no easily customized shortcut/quick keys like in NWN.
i think gamespot is retarded
IMO gothic should have gotten at least a 9,
i cant believe nwn got 9.1 |

No Gothic's area ia about four or five times smaller than MW. But if you really get into it you'll find that the area is designed so well, it feels much bigger than it really is. It's world is rich, alive and many paths cross, so you end up with a nostalgic familiarity of the place. And yes, compared with MW's NPCs and creatures, Gothic seems to be truly alive.
Oh... another thing is that the whole world loads up. So it doesn;t pause to load all the time, like in Morrowind. So I guess if you're taking about once of loading, the Gothic land area is hundreds of times bigger than MW _________________ Erb Duchenne |

beauty is in the eye of the beholder, mmm i think gamespot had a lot of spots in their eyes i really enjoyed playing gothic, i didnt sleep for a day, and had played it for nearly 30 hours in a row (food included) and like somebody said over here, i just remember 2 games that really got me this way, and they are Chronno Trigger, and Zelda Ocarina Of Time, i liked others games as well, but that kinda feeling like gothic atmosphear or the Great Mega beautifull time travel of Chrono, mm i cant tell of any other game with that kind of TRAMA, just my thoughts

Gamespot has more than one opinion on Gothic. We all know about the review, but their real RPG expert ... shows again that he is an expert.

I agree, but i wonder how much of MW is traversable? Much of the area seems to be filler hills that coral you from one area to the next. Even if you can reach the top of a hill by levetation, there isn't much up there. _________________ "You two are a regular ol' Three Musketeers." |

Yeah. It was the same with me, Erb...
They don't let you see more than 5 screenshots now too!
And it's not like you cant go back to another site to see the SAME screens or the SAME content that Gamespot restricts to non-members!! _________________ "Don't you call me a mindless philosipher, you old weight lob of grease."
