I mean are there real RPG aspects to this game? NPC interaction, differant things you can say and do?

I'd say that its an RPG. You choose how to advance your character, how to solve certain quests, based on your play style.

One ommission, however, that we normally attribute to RPGs is dialouge trees. All NPC interaction in Arx is scripted. You click on an NPC and your char. will say a predetermined line (and get a canned response) based on how the story has progressed at that point. There is no choice of what to say. There are only choices in what you *do*.

This can feel a bit restrictive at times. However, the game has so much more to offer that this quirk becomes a minor point. The manipulation of objects and environment make this game incredibly immersive. There is an incredible attention to detail in the graphics, sound, and combat.

You can brew potions, make food, fish, repair weapons, etc. In that sense, there is a great feeling that you are "living" in this underground world.

I would most certainly give this game a GO because there so few 1st person games out there that AREN't just straight-up shooters.

Oh yes, Arx is RPG. elkstone here gave very detailed answer with little to add really. Arx has every formal criteria of CRPG besides dialogue trees. But it *add* to the game. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy dialgues and can't imagine my existance without Planescape-like conversations It's just Arx has so many coolest things that you don't miss text trees a bit. In fact the way dialogues are implemented in Arx is very... eerrmm... natural. Every time scripted scene appears you feel that you couldn't have said better Plus every line of dialogues has voiceover. Very professional in my mind.

GO for this game! Please!

The Dialogues are the difference as already stated, but they have made many of them into little mini movies in the game, which just pull you in more. There are so many ways to get the same end results, whether it's food, potions, majic use, weapons enchantment, the list is endless, that you don't feel a need to do a lot of talking. There isn't enough time for idle chatter. It is an enjoyable experience.
