Soul trap scroll and paralyze potion?

When I cast the Soul Trap scroll on my target I keep getting a message that says "you did not get a target" or something to that effect. I have numerous soul gems ( of varying size and quality) in my inventory. What am I doing wrong? Do you need a high enchantment skill? I figured maybe you do if your using a soul trap SPELL, but I didn't think so if using a soul trap SCROLL.

Also, what on god's earth do you do with a paralyze potion? It's NOT a restore paralyze (that's readily explainable) this one's just a paralyze potion. I keep wracking my brain but I can't come up with a single reason why I would want to paralyze myself.

And while I'm at it, I might as well ask you guys one more question: are ranged spells and arrows "aim sensitive"? A lot of times my fire balls seem to miss when the bad guy is moving... brings me back to my fighter sim experiences and I find myself instinctually trying to deflection shoot. The reason I ask is because I remember reading somewhere that eventhough the combat is handled like a FPS, this is still an RPG game and your skill and level primarily determine the outcome of your attacks. My destruction is at 36 or 37 and my marksmanship sucks royal... Maybe that explains it.

thanx for the input...
