Snappers hate Scavengers!!!

This is the result of a highly scientific and unbiased research conducted by me in Gothic. I was running from a Snapper, and, when all seemed lost (I was level 3), the Snapper broke off the chase to kill a Scavenger! It then proceeded to eat some meat of the dead Scavenger, and only then resumed his pursuit of me.

I was intrigued, and aided by Marvin Mode (may it live forever), I set up an experiment: me (invincible), three Snappers, and a couple of Scavengers. The Snappers always stopped chasing me to go after the Scavengers. One Snapper alternated between biting me once, going to a Scavenger body, eating some from it, and then biting me again.

Snappers must really hate Scavengers... or like their meat!

Don't quote me on this: but I think like Snappers and scavengers, Shadowbeasts love molerats!

Where did your experiment take place? Or is it irrelevant? ie, you spawned all the creatures?

Yes. All the animals/monsters have defined attitudes to all the others. Scavengers do not get on well with people, snappers, bloodlflies or swampsharks for example.

You're also right about the Shadowbeasts/molerats.

It seems that if there aren't enough scavengers, the snappers will not stop pursuing you. I've also found that the Stone Golem hates just about everything that moves; memorable combats that took place:

* Stone Golem vs Swampshark (no winner, but Thorus watched the entire fight - he kept facing the fight, but never took any action)
* Stone Golem vs Minecrawler (Minecrawler ran away!!!)
* Stone Golem vs Skeleton Mage (poor skeleton never stood a chance)
* Stone Golem vs Mercenary (mercenary sometimes wins!!!!)
* Cord vs Orc Dog (Cord easily wins)
* 3 Shadowbeasts vs Lee & Orik (Lee disappeared...)
* Wolf vs Bloodfly
* Wolf vs Molerat

I've also added 15 scavengers around me, and then added a snapper. The Snapper proceeded to kill all scavengers...

I use Marvin. It's real easy to make the Stone Golem fight - just insert one somewhere with lots of people and animals, and quickly run away from it, then watch from a distance. Other monsters are pickier about whom they fight.

I think molerats are the lowest on the food chain. Poor molerats.

molerats? I'd have thought the juvenile scavengers we're the most pathetic.

I agree... they are such racist bastids.

About molerats... they seem to be more in danger of getting eaten than juvenile scavengers. Besides, juvenile molerat is the first animal you encounter (well, second really, after some meatbugs, but first of the two we are discussing).

Well if you count humans as animals Diego would be the first you encountered.

In the Gothic 2 demo I run in to them, 2 bites and I was dead so they are better now.
