Shadowbane: New Server - Redemption

The Shadowbane team has announced a new world titled Redemption:
The Shadowbane Team is proud to announce that a new game world is headed your way! On Thursday, February 24, in the afternoon, the world of Redemption will be brought online. Redemption will use the Dalgoth mapset, and will offer accelerated Structure and Hireling upgrade times that mirror the rates on Wrath. Redemption follows the same guidelines, schedules, and rules as the other North American production servers, including the new rules and systems added in Shadowbane: Throne of Oblivion. Also, for the first seven (7) days, this server will have accelerated experience and gold gains!
Hit the link for more details, including the migration strategy.

Really?

Is Shadowbane really doing that well? I recall seeing at least 3 newsbits announcing new servers.

Not too familiar with Shadowbane but I've heard that some of the "new" servers are actually old servers being merged into "new" ones. Not sure if that is true for every single new server announcement they have made but it seems like they are consolidating, not necessarily growing .

Thank you. That makes much more sense. After all, Shadowbane Asia went completely under. The online market keeps getting tighter and tighter. Witness the behemoth called Everquest consolidating servers.

The forecast that the online game market had huge growth potential turned out to be false. There is base population that moves to new games, leaving others and sometimes back and forth with very little influx of "new" players.

i haven't seen shadowbane/ubisoft advertise this game at all since its release--even no ads when they released each expansion. yes, basically only 3 servers now with a decent population---2 new ones and 1 old one. decent at best.

i think more people would enter the mmorpg market if the devs would start using some creativity in designing these games and get innovative ideas into them. some small companies are doing that, but they often don't have the millions of dollars it takes to release the game. those big companies with the money just keep releasing the same-old everquest style game. of course the market hasn't grown as much-- the products haven't grown much.

Yes

Excellent observations Yellowrat. Maybe the big companies with tons of money to spend think Everquest clones are "safe" investments whereas innovation is risky. There is also something to be said about production values and licenseing. Basically, fancy bells and whistles and/or brand image are not reliable.

People who play games consistently, that is to say people who are willing to pay monthly fees for games continuously for years do not care if Christopher Lee and Heather Graham did 3 minutes of voice work for a few hundred grand in salary. The gameplay still has to be intriguing.

Similarly, big brand names like Matrix, Lord of the Rings and Star Wars tacked on to an Everquest clone does not impress the above mentioned gamer. Those brands will attract the curious non gamers who will play their free month and be done with it resulting in unprofitability.

Shadowbane

well, yes the game has 2 new servers

Wrath----completely fresh
Redemption---migration for those who like to keep characters. no inventory
Mourning===migration for characters with inventorys

the other servers of Vengance, Corruption, Entropy and Damation will probalby fall or be forced eventually into 3 main servers listed above

I have been playing the game for 3 years..but UBI doesnt adverstise..
if you even did minimal on YAHOO you could probably get moreplayers into the purest { PVP game there is..

most of the bugs have been worked out..but alas it will prolly end up like the rest......
