I really don't understand you.Reviews are NOT so IMPORTANT.For me is enough to know what the game is about not the writers opinion on the game.
Play which game you want whenever you want regardeless of previews or reviews.
The ones who write the reviews are human too. They will like a game better than another game so the ratings are not to be trusted
As a personal opinion: The reviewers can be "bought" to write a more favourable review or a worse review for a game.

Practically all games can be boxed into a gener. That helps a gamer 'know what it's about.' But with so many games available these days, it's not always clear which games implement their advertised features well from those that do not. So it's my opinion that reviews are certainly a welcome resource, but much like a doctor who tells you that you have cancer, it's often best to get at least a few more opinions...

Well I don't know about you, but if I relied only on what it says on the game box or what advertisements for a game say, I'd have a heck of a lot more unplayed games and a heck of a lot less money. Your suggestion is not a good alternative for me and my limited funds.

I live in the real world too. I know that people can be bought off. That's why reviews are most helpful when you read a variety of reviews from a variety of sources. Not everyone is going to be 'bought off' and generally when a game is bad, most reviews will tend to reflect that. When a game is good, most reviews tend to reflect that as well. There have been some excpetions to this in my experience, but those exceptions are just that - exceptions.

You didn't quite understood what I wanted to say about reviewers being "bought off"
Example: company X pays reviewer A to say about company's Y game that it lacks something(athmosphere, gameplay, controls, graphics) so that the readers will most likely go and buy company's X game
Evidently my theory is correct as long as X nd Y release the same genre of games in the same period of time.
Sorry if I insist on this matter but I was very frustrated about 2 years ago about a review ( I don't remember the game ).Because of the review I failed to play the game, but now I can't find it anywhere.
BTW: Do you know where I can find Gothic 1? I recently bought G2 and I would like to have G1 as well

Understood

I understand what you were getting at now better. But really, it's the same thing. Whether one rights a great review or a bad review because of 'payola' it's still bad service.

I live in Califonria. Occasionally, I see Gothic 1 in bargain bins. But you can definatley find a copy on ebay I'm sure.

Nope

Yeah I saw that too... I posted a comment in the News forum under that news topic.

It's just another example of sloppy reviewing that is pervasive on the Internet... but at least it's free...
