Black Isle Studios: John Deiley Interview @ Gamebanshee

Gamebanshee has posted a pretty detailed interview with ex-Black Islander, John Deiley. It covers a wide range of territory including some story details on Fallout 3. With so many snips to choose from, here's a little clip on Baldurs Gate 3:
GB: As with Fallout 3, Baldur's Gate 3 may or may not ever exist. Can you tell us what the concept and background was behind the game? Was it going to be a continuation of the "Child of Bhaal" saga, or something altogether different?

John: It had little to do with the original Baldur's Gate series. It was a beautiful story of the player, who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and finds himself wrapped in a web of intrigue, lies, and mysteries.

I know that's very vague, but that's where I'm going to leave it. Baldur's Gate 3 was the child of Josh Sawyer, whom I respect very much. He put his heart and soul into the design of that game and its cancellation left a deep wound. If there is anything more to say about it, I leave it to him.

What a loss to the world of gaming. Those two games would have been awesome. Interplay really deserves to fold; it has no business acumen at all.

You mean 3 games? I think that TORN would have been an awesome game too. I was depressed for maybe a whole month after I heard it was canned.

What retard decided that baldurs gate 3 wouldnt make money?

Thats just strange and out there.

Baldurs gate in its twenty somethingth release pays all the bills at interplay today more than five years later.

That is sort of like cancelling the next star wars movie.

Go ahead and look at the rpgdot list of 100 or whatever rpgs. None of them sold as many copies as baldurs gate. What else do you need to make a game but the highest sales possible? What sort of better idea do you have?

Where can I go buy the rights to make baldurs gate 3? Ill find investers that day. Ill be rich! muhahah!

Interplay LOST the rights to make BG3. It's all tied up in legalities. Sure they made some stupid decisions concerning those rights, but it wasn't that they didn't want to make the game.
