As of know I have 256 megs of ram. I was wondering if I would see any difference in game performance if I got another 256? I know I would probably see better performance by getting a tbird, but ram is cheaper and money is an issue at this time.

I have 512 megs, and load screens and getting out are a breeze and the hard driver rarely scrolls in game 512 is the way to go, any more and your godlike.

I see that someone like your post and quote it twice
But i think it is better to say "enough RAM is very important for gamespeed."
Several months ago was 256 MB enough and if you upgraded to 512 you noticed little emprovement (in games). But today I think, 512 is enough. If you upgrade from 256 to 512 you will notice improvement. If you upgrade from 512 to 768, you will notice nothing (or nearly nothing).

so 196 really isnīt enough?
it hicups likea maniac - i had to disable speech sound for it to run ok
but ... 256 is enough for it not to hicup? what about 320?
anyone?
one more question: virtual memory how much is necessary for the same effect? 200megas, 300? 800?! more?

My experience is that you need is that you need at least a P3-800, 256 MB RAM and a GeForce2 (not MX) to play smoothly. If one or more components are weaker Gothic will stutter.
256MB are only enough if you optimized your memory system and have ~170 MB free RAM. 384MB should be enough.

I donīt know about the swap file. If your harddisc is big enough set Min=Max=1GB and forget about it.

Swap files should be double your real ram's size. E.g. 128mb of ram = 256mb Swap file
