Welcome to the forums Halberdier,

You really must read this thread entirely before making your statements!

1. I have seen the old man, in a cave, not large, but of "hall type appearance"
2. If it takes a long time to play Gothic how could you put a figure on how long it takes to find the cave/hall (it took me a split second when i found it!)
3. No one (not even me) has found this by doing K or even f6 (which is a lot easier)
4. You cannot "just find" the cave, you must play the game in sequence, through the chapters, inserting the books manually is just "not on" it won't work, why do you think hardly anyone has found it?
5. All of this has been said previously. What is your reply?

Well... This "hall type cave" is simply fake. There is no such place in german 1.08j. h and k versions. You could easily overwiew hidden locations by MAITAI mode, because there is no textures. And gothic-engine do not support dynamic locations.

This fake-chromarin story I heard two years ago. There is no truth in it.

So, the Gothic engine does not support dynamic locations?

Well, - - - it does!

It supports the inclusion of levelchangers to net/netlevel"x".zen for one
so given a certain chapter, the dynamic location would appear as the camera
view/distance level came into the viewpoint.
Or to put it in simple terms, the Whole of Gothic is dynamic in relation to the camera.
If you are sat inside say Diego's hut and you know, say, Xardas is in his tower, in fact he will not be in his tower, there is nothing there, the tower is "generated" as the camera comes into the distance of it.

Not, camera movement does not made a location dynamic. Camera simply cut distant polygons from STATIC environment, it does not interfere with loaction placement, only with rendering.

So if there is a hidden location -- it should be seen in maitai mode. But there is not.

guys, this is getting old. the 'alternate' chromanin ending does not exist.

there is no evidence *whatsoever* of it existing. there is no world geometry of this hidden place, there is no audio file of this old man talking about the chromanin, and there is nothing in gothic.dat that points to an alternate chromanin ending. not to mention that those who claim to have 'solved' it have failed to provide a single bit of useful information about it. (and dont give me that "i spent x hours finding this and im proud of it! ill give you some rediculous hints so you can find it yourself" crap, you could easily post a screenshot without giving any hints how to accomplish it)

so here are the possibilites.

1) this is a hoax

2) this is real, and the gothic devs succeeded in making the most amazingly well hidden secret in the history of videogames. they somehow managed to hide *all* evidence of this secret encrypted somewhere deep in the gothic files, so deep that you can count the number of people who have found it on one hand with change.
...and they found the time to do all this despite leaving numerous large bugs as well as severe game inbalances.

you decide.

sorry to spoil everyones fun. but i am a realistic person. just like everyone else here, i am a HUGE gothic fan, and the thought of such a major secret eluding me was very interesting. but when i investigated myself, and weighed the evidence, there was only one logical conclusion. this is a hoax.

i do recognize the vague possibility that i am wrong about this, and if i am, then all apologies. and my hats off to the devs. but at this point the only thing that will convince me that the man can be found alive will be seeing it with my own eyes.

Well, I too think that the probability of a hoax is getting quite high. I would just make my considerations clearer to answer to Wulf.

1 - One point is that I don't believe that Gothic supports dynamic locations, thus I agree with Ruslan. What is dynamic is only the opening of gates and doors. This would imply the possibility to find hidden places by cheating in any event sequence, provided you look for it accurately enough.

2 - The second point is that, if wolverine_man searched for hours, the hall is not the place where the corpse is normally found after the last book, that is not a new place. I did not understand clearly if the corpse is supposed to be the old man, that you would find alive after some careful behavior, but should it be so, he should anyway be elsewhere, not in the same place as the corpse.

I find this very amusing, your arguements. When the developer was here then why didn't you ask him to confirm if there is an alternate ending? But now I thnk you guys scared him off because when I got back from vacation the thread was locked. I have personally thought of wolverine_man's new clues and come up with a plan which I will make a new game and try and maybe see what happens. My guess is that if we do the "righteous" path or whatever that the Chromanin 6 book will actually have writing, other then some stupid scream when you open it. I got nothing else to do, waiting for Gothic 2 to arrive in mail still and the NoTR in English and the new Diccuric patch for Gothic to come out.

@Killerofevils II,

You will have no problem locating and speaking to the old man, but you will need the German patch 1.08h loaded over the German Gothic game, the german patch over the English game will not do, as when in the game you check the version (ver in marvin) it will not achieve 1.08h status.

P.S you need only ask, and i will gladly be of help, this is because you are a believer! (only just)

P.P.S. If you find the corpse, then you have failed.

Wulf,

I interpret your last assertions as:

1. you fully solved the months lasting riddle,

2. I have no chance of enjoying your solution, since I only have an italian version and no patches,

3. our previous considerations weren't wrong, if you don't have the right installation, you have no chance of locating the right place.

Congratulations, though! It seems to me a quite tricky quest, it imply a certain deal of determination, as it involves versioning issues.

A last question: do your solution match with wolverine_man's description?

For the honor of Magic

I think you must read through and study the contents of all the posts on this thread, i find it becoming repeated.
There is nobody more confused than me, i saw the old man once when i first played the game and i took no notice of him, it wasn't important to me.
How on earth did i manage to see him in his cave?, i only bought the game the first week it came out, then played it, that would imply that it is in the normal game?? - - so i gave up searching a long time ago (over 3 years!)
If i ever found him again, i would not tell, i would do the same as wolverine_men and prompt the disbelievers with the odd clue.
It most definately exists, it's up to others too have a go.
Consider this, to be able to execute the German 1.08h patch which is confirmed by the developers to contain the "der fremde" extra quest, it can only be installed over the German version of the game, now we know that the Gothic player kit, intended for mods/mod builders, has some unique methods of proccessing the game files better than the game itself can, it even gives error messages for faults, it can even enable playing of enlish wav/sound/dialogue's, but it can't put English text back into the game dialogue menus, (even though the text is there) - - so, you could select using the Gothic starter of the 1.08h player kit, or even the 1.08k/j player kit?

There, - - - you now know as much as i do.

P.S. There was also the earlier 1.07? patch
but it is now merged with the 1.08

So Wulf are you saying I can't find the hidden ending in the english version or do I have to get both german versions? Also so if I find the dead corpse it's wrong? K that clears some things up. So do I need both germen versions or can I use english version and do I also need 1.08k patch?

Het there Killerofevils II,

I see you are sticking with this

Yes if you see the corpse youv'e failed "the true path"

Which ever combination you use, and its only calculated guess, i would say you
that if you can't see ver 1.08h in marvin in the game then you won't enable the
added quest but even this might not be so. ?

I did not find the later books, i think i had maybe three? books when i spoke to the old man. I don't know how this would affect the other books/quest?

Stay with the old camp, pay prot' money, give the map off Ian straght back to Diego "the real test of faith" , build up x.p by hunting, give Graham 20ore for the map, dont kill npc's and so on, seeing the old man is not a tricky thing to do, just be a good guy, don't cause fights, follow the "straight" storyline, don't kill such as Gilbert or Mud or characters like when Thorus wants someone "taken care of" and other similar "good boy" tactics.

My Gothic game is English ver 1.08j. I played a srtaight game, I didn't know what "marvin" was, it's wierd, could it actually be in the English ver?

It was info' off Gorath in this thread that i learned "der fremde" was in 1.08h?

Well true Wulf but I got some questions, what should I do for Throus's quest? I can't kill mordrag or beat him down or do i just have him lead me to new camp then go back? Also what about Dexter's quest? Should I steal the recipe or what? Also Bullit, would it be ok to get revenge or what?

O.k Killerofevils II,

There is now more "weight" to your questions, this is the whole point of the game, imagine it is real, would you kill another just because you've been asked to ? - - of course not, forget the hack'n'slash, stay cool when provoked, no do not kill Mordrag, yes lead him to the new camp, this gets tricky, you must answer to Gomez that you know people in the sect and new camp, do not join any, but i would say do the *minimal* (just talk) - - (focus quests etc')
Dexters quest, Mmmm, you might get away with *not* doing it, stealing is not being on the "path of the righteous, you only need to satisfy 4 quests for Diego. Again don't knock Bullit, keep control. You will no doubt, now be aware of the different type of game you must play.? Kill one npc by mistake and you will have to reload a saved game.

What happens when you go into the free mine then? Do you have to not kill any of the guards because that is just silly.

I would think that it would be ok to kill the guard in that situation but let the shadows and diggers live.
