I don't know what this could be..but the sky and water is very ugly...the textures really are lowres, uhm..how to explain..a very Oily look on both sky and water...play quake3 and you see that ugly sky too..what do i need to change to make the sky normal and water too..cause this is not how Gothic's water and sky supposed to be. |

hmmm - what grafx card do you use? as for the sky, it is not a sky really, but a magical barrier, maybe that's what's causing your probs.

I have a Radeon, and if I turn off S3TC in my video driver, I get very ugly graphics in some areas. I don't know what specific areas, because I turned it back on quickly. You can see it very quickly. On the first screen where you select New Game, Load Game etc the grey background is very bleh looking. I know there was some issues with GeForces and S3TC awhile ago, and that they remedied it with an updated driver. This was awhile ago though, so if you have anywhere near a new driver it should work. Check your S3TC setting in the video driver...

Well, the Radeon is from ATI and maybe the NVidia drivers don't offer this S3TC option. Anyway, here's the standard questions:
- did you install the latest Nvidia Reference Drivers?
- did you install the latest DirectX 8(a ?)?
- did you play arounf with the gothic.ini file?
- did you try to un- and reinstall?

Definately make sure you have the latest nVidia drivers and DirectX8 installed. I am positive there are issues with nVidia cards and s3tc. It was originally the sky in Quake III looking horrid, but they updated it in the driver to fix the problem, I think. Since I don't own an nVidia card, I didn't pay much attention.

yuo know, aside from the lack of view due to fog distance or render distance the sky is beautiful. never seen such realism in clouds in some of the evening texs. the water does suck. sometimes the waterfalls go up instead of down. i have an old voodoo5 5500 and i have yet to have a bug other than the falling thing. glad i didnt pay for a nvidia card |

Why? As long as he has something to add to the discussion I donīt see a problem. |

Yes, but when he brought the Release Date of Gothic 1 back up I thought it was Gothic 2.
Perhaps you should limit your comments to the last month?

I also thought so until I recognized this thread. He said he is drunk, so maybe he just used the search function for 'release date' and 'voodoo' and found some old treasures.
There is nothing wrong in reopening old threads. Itīs better than opening a new thread and asking trivial questions over and over again. |
