Sunken tower location

I'm currently at a lake with 3 waterfalls that dump into it and a broken tower on the bank. Can you tell me where I go from here? Do I need to do this to go on and charge the sword?

Where are you in story?

I'm not sure where you are, but it sounds like the tower on the far east of the land, which is not really part of that quest. What chapter and what was last task you were given. Someone else may know where you mean, but a little more details will help me give you the right answer.

I'm in chapter 5, trying to find the bone armor from Xardas. I have the key, but can't find where to dive down to the underwater cave. Do I need to do this or can I have Xardas charge Urziel without doing it?

You have to enter the tower, then you can dive down to the entrance. You could transform into a lurker. They can breathe under water. At least I think I remember they can.
I guess exploring the tower is necessary. At least the loot is worth it.

I don't think you need to go there to complete the game, but in the ruined tower you do get the great armor, plus a rune that will let you teleport into the now-sealed Old Camp -- so you can avenge the poor Fire Mages.

Gorath's is what has worked for me in the past: transform into a Lurker and then you are not under time pressure to swim down the tunnel and then up into the rest of the tower before drowning.
