Serious ouch! (Gothic2 review on GameSpy)

I just found a Gothic 2 review on GameSpy.

2 out of 5 stars... and guess for what!? For being too slow to level and not having enough cool weapon drops.

*sigh*

That's like giving DeusEx2 2 out of 5 stars for not having enough mutants you can shoot with a chicken gun! Jeez, I really don't get how some people hold on to their jobs.

*sigh* Some people just can't appreciate Gothic's style.

"leveling up is too slow"
Then either he just plain sucks at the game or he needs to learn that not all games have one-hit kill combat.

And people thought GameSpot had a bad review. No ladies and gentlemen, this is a bad review.

All I've played is the demo and it's not what this dimwit is describing.

You should check out the responses on the boards. Every post but one is slamming the reviewer real bad. Even people who say that G2 isn't their cup of tea claim they would give it 4 out of 5.

It's unfortunate to see these somewhat lackluster reviews coming out of the U.S. based sites (I'm in the U.S.).

Gothic 2 is a real gem despite it's flaws.

If a scientist presented a paper that described how to cure cancer, but he made a few spelling and grammar errors, such reviewers would criticize the research and miss the whole point that the cure for cancer had been discovered.

Ah well. Ten years from now we will all remember Gothic 2, but not pathetic reviews, or who made those reviews.

its kind of funny, i bet he gave elder scrolls a great review.

It seems that most people who like eldesr scrolls hates Gothic2. the same goes for gothic fans alike. i think.

I love the game, and alot of people do. 2/5 is shocking. The pure amazing gameplay must have been so good that it gave him brain-damage for him to give such a bad review.

Combat takes place in real-time, and that adds another layer of difficulty. The action doesn't stop when you access your inventory menu, so the enemy just keeps on attacking while you frantically try to select and use a much-needed item

how many games actually pause the game when you go to the inventory seriously, this guy is an absoulute n00b he should lose his job. He is bad mouthing the possibly best game personally i have every played, i prefer games that you dont have to worry too much about the stats and he recons its hard to level PLEASSEEE he oviously spent 5 minutes looking and then gave up. He stated the graphics are average to good...how about STUNNING. I cant believe ppl like him are hired i bet he never even finished chapter one. I hope the pyranha bytes dont listen to these reviews because it could very well ruin the wonderful game.

I don't know about that. I for one like Morrowind and Gothic 2.

The quality of gamespy reviews have gotten worse everyday.

Can't say I'm surprised that they asked that moron to write this "review".

want slow level up ? try elder scroll III : morrowind --
i've beten the main quest .. and i was no more then level 7 or something ..
it takes forever..
and besides the ending of the main quest sucks .. dont invest in that game .. oki huge world lots of weapons and armors and many many quest ...
but not really any story line .. well there is one but its not really that good ..
they could learn alot from the guys behind gothic
so if you wanna give a bad review give it to morrowind ..
gothic deserves ALOT better then some pissant haveing a bad day cuz his wife selpt whit the mail man
dont take it out on a great game like gothic

in short

GOTHIC RULES!!!!!

I know. People should be ripping this game off! Anyway, I read a review or preview that said the merc/militia/firemage was similar to the standard fighter/mage/thief classes. How do these people get hired? If I hadn't played the first Gothic I would have skipped this game based on that single sentence.

On the other hand, the reason I bought the first Gothic was the back of the box stating that you could own property (and the game was about $20) That was pretty much a lie, but I don't regret buying the game.

Still, even if that review really stinks, I find that most professional game reviews are pretty damn awful. I'd rather stick to the fan-sites and message boards.
