One more comment: This along with arcanum are the only two rpgs I have ever played that were so huge I did not WANT to do everything. I can be very picky and only do what I want to do and still have an enjoyable experience. And this is much more so for morrowind than for arcanum.

You guys are completely missing the point (or at least my point). Just because you can spend 2 hours in one location doesn't make the world any larger (in terms of space, which is what I'm talking about). It just means it has a lot of content. In case some of you haven't noticed it, time and space are not the same thing.

The island should be considerably larger. I say this because it usually takes little time (in-game time) to get from one town to the next. Personally (and my persoanl view point is about the only thing important to me at this moment), it should take a considerable amount of time to get from Pelgraid to Balmora. So much so, that walking would be a bitch. Hence my next wish of having some sort of mount (a gaur, three-legged donkey, slay pulled by midgets, whatever). Taking this to the extreme: what I would like to see would be a world as large as Daggerfall but with the same high content as MW. Don't start in with "You do know how many CDs it would take?" or "Do you know how much time it would have taken?" because, no, I don't. And niether do you. The best you could say is that it would take a lot (there's an insight). But that's not a consideration in my wish list.

Morrowind is small. There may be a lot to do, but it is still small.

You can obviously wish for whatever you want... I would also like to see a world the size of daggerfall with the content of morrowind.

But you HAVE GOT to take into account practicality when judging something. Unless you do, you lose all credibility. What you want would have taken at least a century to produce, unless they did randomization like daggerfall.

When did I pass judgement?

judgement

"The island should be considerably larger"

It seems like you were judging the world size to be insufficient.

not trying to start an argument or anything, but...

that is clearly passing judgement. there are a few developers who frequent the forum, and alot of them do have a good idea of how long it takes to produce a quality peice of software. that being said, the game has a good balance of size vs content. if it were larger, the areas with contnent would seem too few and far between. my only thought is that most of the towns are far too small. vivec being the largest exception. an area with 20 houses is a street, not a town.

Yes, yes, I can see how that sounds Wasn't my point though, not in so far as worthyness of the game goes. I was being compliant with my wish list.

Take things out of context an you can make something from nothign everytime.

And if I was wrong about less the realatively small number of developers that read the MW RPGDot forum, then I guess I'll just have to live with it. Don't know how I'll ever do it. I guesss it helps nowing that small, small, small group of people can take exception to my words.

Wow, I definately don't agree that the world is small. I look at the map and I haven't covered a quarter of the island yet and my 22nd level character has done a lot of traveling. Personally, I wouldn't really be all that enthused about a game world that took two hours real life time to traverse from one city to another. That would be too realistic for my liking.

actually

I am a software developer and rpg enthusiast.

I support your post on the grounds that it is a "dream wish".

As mentioned earlier, it would be incredible to combine the size of daggerfall with the detail of morrowind.

But seriously, to be upset over it?

That's like me being upset over my car needing gas.

Just my opinion,

I actually wouldn't mind if the island was smaller and the NPCs more believeable. If there is one downfall with Morrowind is that the NPCs are hardly Characters at all. I find their responses to be so uninteresting, bland and repetitive that if I didn't have to get Missions from them I would not talk to them at all.

you know, a Daggerfall size world with morrowind substance could be possible if everyone helped with a single plugin that could vastly expand Morrowind, of course i doubt that would ever happen, but i can always dream

There's a fansight that's dedicated to building Tamriel. I'd post the link if I could get to Bethesda's link page but I can't right now.

It looks really interesting.

tamriel

That sounds interesting, but man oh man will that be a lot of work. I don't think that fan projects that are more work than the original game will make it far, at least not with the plugin architecture.

The "portal" approach that neverwinter nights will be using makes the construction of gigantic worlds much easier. You basically have 100 pcs linked by portals, and each one has a manageable chunk of the world.

Plugins will be great for adding some other stuff though... personally i like to see huge creatures in my games.

I saw a Dev talking about a Dragon Mod he was making. No other details.
