Okay, i wan't to know more about this game, it seems to be pretty good! And i found it in stores for a very good price!
Whats the story? And what is the difference between the Baldur's Gate games? |

The story is basically that you awake in a mortuary, with no recollections, and you discover that you are immortal. The player takes it from there, basically trying to find out about his past.
The difference from Baldurs Gate, etc., is that you don't choose race, gender, class, etc., but have a precreated character, the Nameless One (you can assign stats to him yourself, though). The party members are all rather unconventional, a floating skull, a modron, a succubus, a githzerai, to name but a few. Everything is zoomed slightly in, only one NPC has ranged weapons.
I recommend it highly, it's story is very well written. |

The main difference between these two very alike gameplay styles are the loooooong dialogues in planescape. You often can solve problems by choosing the right dialogue lines. Only problem is that if you choose something wrong, you just have to choose another line until you succeed. The game don't seem to have any consistency for your choises, you just try again! |

Your dialogue choices in Planescape Torment also affect other stuff you may not notice, such as your alignment. |

Yes it has long dialogues. You can solve many of your quests by selecting the correct dialogue option. Selecting the wrong one might get you into combat. So the scenario Michael C described is not always valid. You would have to revert to a previous save game in that case. Solving a quest without fighting will almost every time give you more experience points than fighting your way through.
The game has a very different atmosphere from the one found in Baldur's Gate, a far better one in my opinion I might add.
Also you can not choose your class, but you can change during the game between fighter, thief and mage by getting the proper training.
It's one of the best games I ever played.

Yes, it's definately worth that.
And yes, your character is immortal (within reason).
In fact, at some points in the game it's required for your character to die and be reborn.

You don't have to worry to much about dying in this game. Your character regenerates over time. Don't try running around and attacking Gods and powerful creatures though. You also have to worry about your followers dying.

Man, you WANT Torment's followers! They're what makes the game... interacting with them is what it's all about.
Val's pic is the only cleric in the game that you can get. Another guy is voiced by Keith David (the guy who voiced Goliath in Gargoyle, and Spawn on HBO)... the voice acting is great, and the characters are too.
And since it's hard to die, there's not much combat in the game... more story (well, ok... I remember some whopping huge combats too. Alright... a lot of whopping huge combats....).
