Newbie questions..

Hello every one! I´m new here and newbie with the game. Please help me with this questions.

1. How can I join mages in the monestary, the guy outside say I already shosed my path. I have betsy and the 1000 GK.

2. How do you know the directions? N/E/S/W.. I guess who ever invented the compass isn´t born yet.

1- If you had joined to militia or mercenarys, you can't be a mage

2- There is a map in the game ?

Yes, in the harbour district , near the Pigleg pub there is a map seller named Brehim.(I ain't sure about the name) He can sell you maps
