Larian's NextGen Game Screenshots |
|
Larian, creators of the Divinity games, have posted three screenshots of their next RPG using their new engine. The word NextGen make me nervous, will they develop for NextGen consoles only? The screens are worth a look anyway. |

Screens look pretty good, and remind me a bit of Elderscrolls 4 and Gothic 3 with their realism. I hope it's a PC game, cause I'm not buying a nextgen console |

I'm actually willing to bet it is a PC, or at least will have a PC release. Anyone else notice the third screen though? There is a sign pointing to Versidis (sp?). Divinity 2 possibly? _________________ Paladin Rithe |

Let's hope it's for PC indeed, as I (like Melvil) won't buy a next-gen console, or any console for that matter.
And yea, as the sign says Verdistis it's atleast in the Divinity universe. |

By the name on the sign that would at least place the game in the Divinity Universe. Beacsue of that, i would think the game would be released for PC. Console players don't even know what Divinity is. |

I seem to recall Divinity being published for consoles as well. Why do I recall that? Was it just proposed? |

I don't believe so. I could be wrong. I've been away from the Larian site for quite a while. |

Hmm, maybe you should try not to put *all* console players in the same box... Why is it that so many "pc gamers" single-mindedly bash the consoles or the "console players"? As I see it, there are only "players".
Personally I'm a long time pc owner and I think I've played just as many "hard core" pc rpgs as the next guy - yet I still also own a Xbox. Both platforms have things they do well - the pc's are great for doing story and having mouse-controlled interfaces... but some games just play better on a game-pad (once you get used to using them).
Anyway, you might as well get used to consoles and accept that game companies will develop for them - because at this time there is only sound business in the console market. Look at a list of old game companies that went belly-up recently.. how many of those developed PC-only titles?!? Even a *great* pc-rpg will sell only in moderate numbers and there is a huge risk the developer will not be able to cover their costs.
In fact I have the deepest respect for companies such as Larian Studios and Piranha Bytes for being able to pull it off so far!
The company I work for is doing a title for PC, PS2 and Xbox and I think the total development cost will end around $10M. We'll have to sell around 700.000 units to even *begin* making money.... from what I heard Troikas "Vampire: Bloodlines" sold around *one tenth* of that even though it got great reviews - personally I blame that partly on the peer-to-peer networks.
So I guess the botom line of this rant will be (if anyone is still reading): *BUY* the pc-games you like or you might never see any more like them...

Perhaps because RPG's are typical for PC gamers and playing them on a console gives you eye cancer
If the XBOX 360 will have keyboard, mouse,TFT and higher resolution support perhaps i will buy one. |

It's not that pc gamers have anything personal with console players. Because some good games appear only on console the pc gamers get really angry on the "console players".
Any idea if Larian's Next will be a MMORPG? I hope it will be just a rpg. |

Their next game will be Divinity 2. They said that they were going to make it back in about 2003 when they were working on Beyond Divinity. |
