Best Tweaks I have found to date. |
|
I have been trying all of the tweaks i can find to try and improve Morrowinds performance on my gf3/p3 1ghz system and the best two i have found to change in the ini are:
change lighting from linear to quadratic - i don't use this one because the light drop offs are more dramatic and torch lights etc... don't 'dance' as much.
the second, is something someone else mentioned in here - and that is reducing the exterior cell buffer from 32 to 16. my frames went up ~40% outside by doing this alone. I've always had 40-80 fps inside caves and small buildings, but outside, it would drop to 14 from 18 when entering a town from the wilderness. i now hover in the mid 20-30s in the wilderness and only drop to 18 or so in most of the towns.
i also use no swap file on my system at all when running winXP with 512MB ram.
one last thing for nvidia users - if you have the ability to turn up your digital vibrance in the color correction tab of the advanced section of the gfx settings, do it. the color improvement in game is astounding. i find having it on when doing gfx work is bad, but it is great for some games, and especially this one. |

And what did it with quality of graphics? |

there was no appreciable difference at all. the only thing i noticed, apart from the higher framerate, is that the load times seem shorter and closer together - although i might be imagining this. |

How do you reduce the exterior cell buffer from 32 to 16? |

As I don't have the game I'm assuming that you can change it in the ini file. |

I think you should change
Exterior Cell Buffer=32
to
Exterior Cell Buffer=16
In Morrowind.ini. |

I thought that increasing the cell buffer helps. Why would lowering the buffer help? |

Some of you dont even bother tweaking that. Save yourself the heartache.
[LightAttenuation]
UseConstant=0
ConstantValue=0.0
;
UseLinear=0
LinearMethod=1
LinearValue=3.0
LinearRadiusMult=1.0
;
UseQuadratic=1
QuadraticMethod=2
QuadraticValue=16.0
QuadraticRadiusMult=1.0
... yes increase the exterior buffer to like 40 and dont get too greedy! its faster, but slows loading times? I'll take performance over load times any day _________________
