Gothic 2 Review @ VideoGamesLife

Gothic 2 has been reviewed by VideoGamesLife, where it received a fairly positive response though not without some reservations. The score is 81% and this paragraph summarises the perceived problems:
Sadly, it won’t appeal to everyone’s taste. The not-quite-so dedicated role player will probably lose interest around the time when your quests become that little less clear-cut, the uninhibited freedom failing to grab the attention spans of people who are clueless about what to do next. The bland music could offend those who clamour for engrossing atmospheres, as will the hapless controls and unfriendly interface.
Note that this isn't necessarily the tone of the whole review.

Well, of course it won't appeal to everyone. No game does, but if the reviewer spent more time explaining the details of the plot and gameplay and less trying to come up with "clever" put downs, there would be no need to spell it out. The readers could decide for themselves whether the game is for them.

Reviews like this are typical on the Internet - where the reviewer's expectations and personal tastes take precedence over performing a thorogh and objective review of the game and its advertised merits.

Thank god you tend to find most reviews like this on the Internet, and not in a magazine you paid for.

What gets me, is that near the end of the review, after paragraph after paragraph of put downs, the reviewer states, "... Gothic 2 is one of the best games for you out there."

Wow. I'm making a note of that reviewer's name and will consider all of his reviews suspect.
