Dungeon Lord intl relase dates

Seems that the unpolished and unfinished state in which Dungeon Lords hit shelves in the US alarmed Mindscape UK:
Mindscape has today taken the decision to delay the release of Dungeon
Lords by three weeks, to allow the award-winning development team
additional time to address and polish some aspects of the gameplay.

Mindscape apologises for this delay, however, as a distributor and
publisher of quality leisure and games software, Mindscape feels honour
bound to offering only the best titles, produced to the highest of
standards, to its loyal fan and customer base.

Mindscape apologises for any inconvenience caused and its sales and
marketing team are available for any further enquiries.

Dungeon Lords will now be available for PC on 1st July 2005.

dtp will release DL tomorrwo in Germany!

He heh, I like how they just had to point out that it is an "award winning development team" that is behind DL - I guess it is in case anyone was still wondering...

Not that I'm claiming to be psychic or what have you, but I predict that nothing will have changed in the International release of the game. Oh, they will probably put the new Patch (1.2) version on it...but according to the dev (Chuk22) who posted on the official forums, the next patch will NOT have the character customizations or the Auto map...both things that the manual actually says we are suppose to have. So basically, the International version will simply be DL patch 1.2 and have the quest fixes and class/skill bugs squashed...

In other words, the game will still lack furniture and villagers, have no background music anywhere except the menu screen, show long pauses before monster spawns, have female NPCs with male voices, laggy internet play on a 4mbps connection, and dragons that get caught in trees.

A month to fix their problems and release the game in Europe? Try another year.

It has actually gotten good reviews in some stores. And you have no idea how long patch 1.3 is going to take, The reason they are being staged was as chuck said they will affect the compatability of save games so they have lumped all the ones that will affect save games into one patch.

Beyond patching

As many have stated here and all over the Internet, even if all bugs are completely fixed, the game is still horribly unfinished. The towns are empty. You cannot go into any buildings and the ones you can go into, are empty or contain 1 NPC selling potions.

Oh and the Inns. There is a bartender but no guests or beds.

Really, it isn't even a game. It's like a poorly made NWN module. Empty rooms, no furniture, and gobs of enemies that pop out of nowhere.

Yawn.

It's funny how societey has perfected complaining about things. That's a real problem nowadays in my opinion, not only in the gaming biz, but everywhere else, in movies, music, books, politics, family...really everywhere.
And I myself am still doing it as well, even though I try to control myself.

If something is not good or as good as one expected, and someone complains, 80% of the people jump aboard and flame on. And of that 80% a large amout of people don't even know what they are talking about, they just repeat the words of others, because they don't know the game or whatever else they are complaining about.

I am NOT attacking anyone here nor anywhere else, this is just a common phenomenon I have observed over the past years. Everybody has his own opinion which everybody else should respect.

I personally have been following DL for many months now, had a playable alpha in january and several betas and, yes, I too was surprised the game was shipped so soon and I agree I would have loved an automap, furniture, more NPCs in cities and of course background music.

But DL sure has its strong aspects as well, like the dungeons for example, they are among the best I ever played. Or the world itself with the beautiful fauna animations, the fanstastic combat system, which only a few players seem to invest time in to explore, the combat animations, the RPG class promotions and a very nice story...
In other words, I enjoyed the good aspects of the game!

I will wait for patch 1.2 and do a review then, which *may* be the most positive so far and then some people can flame me for that...no, they *will* flame me, I'm sure!

Your point on society complaining is really predicated on the idea that the complaints are unwarranted. They aren't. Dungeon Lords is poorly thought-out and even more poorly executed. Forget the map. Forget the character appearance, forget the empty world and forget the bugs -- it still leaves a mediocre game at best.

The combat system is shallow and repetitive, the class system is poorly designed (everyone playing a mix of melee fighter, mage and a little thieving raise their hands...that's everyone, right?) and the dialogue system subpar with dull cardboard cutout characters to boot. Beautiful fauna? What fauna? You mean the random spawns?

Do anyone honestly find it acceptable that a famed designer of Bradley's experience has a dialogue system where you simply click every entry in order? That the class entry requirements simply don't work at all?

Sorry, Garrett, I'd like to support you but this is one time where the complaints are completely warranted.

Well Dhruin, as said, I respect everyone's opinion, but I did enjoy it really. Have you ever found out the spin or thrust attacks? Fauna = trees and bushes moving with the wind...that looks beautiful.

As said, I was a little disappojnted as well, but the good points make it a good game for me at least...

That's Flora that you're looking for. Fauna refers to animal life not plants.

Yes, I have those attacks. You get them at lvl 5 for each weapon type IIRC...and then that's it - only those two combos for the whole game. Even a game like Diablo 2 (and Dungeon Lords is essentially a 3D Diablo with action combat) has quite a deep skill tree that develops throughout the entire game, while DL offers a spin attack and that's about it.

The trees and so on look rather nice, I agree - or at least until they disappear into the blue haze of the short draw distance. I do rather like the terrain but it gets a bit tiresome without any real variation. Not only that, the wilderness is completely devoid of anything other than an occasional chest, which makes exploration pointless - not to mention the "wilderness" is really just a valley about 200m around each road.

I'm glad you enjoyed it and I don't want to invalidate your opinion. The only reason I responded was because I think the complaints are entirely warranted, which you downplayed. As I said, take away all the technical problems -- every single one of them -- and there's still not a single dialogue choice, no effective gameplay choices and every character is reduced to the same multi-purpose melee/mage/thief combo.

D2 had no diologue choices (and neither did a huge amount of other games, arx fatalis didn't even have words to click on), and the skill tree choices were arbitrary and the numbers worked out to the same in the end, and d2 didn't even have the melee/mage/thief problem, and I didn't hear anything bad said about that in regards to divdiv.

I think G's complaints about everyone being ready to pounce and complain about a game they never bought are valid, or just be so willing to hate and follow what others say. There is fauna such as rats, deer, and crap. The towns in d2 weren't bursting with life, and d2 didn't give a reason. DL does. The Inn room has a bed, dresser, fireplace and bookshelve. I know because I've been in it and saw with my own eyes. Gothic didn't have an automap and neither did u7, DL will.

D2 had the most mindless and juvinille combat I've ever seen in any game, and morrowind, daggerfall, and arx fatalis didn't have any more melee attack options. What makes DL's so bad? I actually have to employ a strategy in DL, something I didn't have to do in any oif the other games. I blew through the other games without much thought and I have huge problems in DL especially vs. the head bosses.

G's call for everyone to relaxe and stop being hate mongers isn't a bad idea. Since when has being fair and open minded a bad idea?
