| LADDERS are much more dangerous than lichs in Arx |

Well, my quest to save the inhabitants of the Arx has just come to a screeching halt. In the end it wasn't the ratmen w/ their poisoned blades, the lichs w/ their lightning spells, or the giant worm with its massive snapping jaws that did me in, but, rather, a simple ladder.
I had just retrieved the large chunk of mithril from the dwarven mine and used that nifty little teleportation device to beam it away. Having done this, I approached the ladder with the intent to climb up and out of this sunken room. But upon reaching the ladder I realized that I had been DUPED! For this was no ordinary ladder...this clever ladder had rendered itself TOTALLY and COMPLETELY unclimbable! Sure, this wasn't the first evil ladder that I'd met in my travels through Arx, but it certainly WAS the first to prevent me from continuing my adventures. While I admire the craftiness of my opponent, I can't help but mourn for the people of Arx whose salvation was dependent upon my success.
Now I'm carefully rationing my bread and cheese, but unless I can figure out the right combination of runes to cast the elusive 'make ladders work' spell, I'm doomed to meet my end through starvation in the bottom of this pit.
Has anyone else suffered this same fate? Did you find a way to outwit this dreadful foe?

I had trouble at first, but I soon realized all you need to do is hold down the up arrow as you approach the ladder straight on. I did jump and up arrow at the same time with some of them to get a start. You need be right in front of some of them. I don't remember the one you are at. If this doesn't help, I don't have any other words of wisdom. |

| 1.15 patch fixed ladder bug |

Actually I tried every approach I could think of to climb the ladder for over an hour, but nothing work. However, I upgraded version 1.13 to version 1.15 shortly after posting this topic and it makes ladder climbing silky smooth. Now I'm out of that stinkin' pit & back on my way to saving the world.

as you have probably suspected, the original ladder in the old version WAS A MIMIC!
and not only did it have more hit points than all the rats, liches and etc you mentioned, but it is also invulnerable to magic!
i'm sure that they took a councel vote and decided that this enemy was best saved for the sequel.
