A BIG Dilemma (Lord Hagen's House)

After 35 hours of playing, I am currently in 1st chapter, choosing a guild (joined Thieves guild already) and solving the Blood Chalices quest.
Here is the point where my dilemma occurs. I wouldn't like to join any of the three guilds yet, and rather solve the Blood Chalices quest (and some other quests too) before i am accepted anywhere.
For completing that quest I have to find the sixth Blood Chalice (before the two-day deadline), which is in upper floor of Lord Hagen's house - where I cannot go without being killed. Anyway, I found a way to get in - I simply shot an arrow at the right guard and when he started chasing me I ran around the fountan where he got "tired" and than I safely ran to Lord Hagen's House.
It was easy to get the Blood Chalice, and I also talked to Lord Hagen, which brought me to the second chapter. I had to pay him a small fee (50 Gold) for causing trouble (shooting a guard), and the paladin I shot acted like nothing had happened.

So, here are my questions:
Was the thing, that I did (entering the house, talking to Lord Hagen), right? And if it wasn't, will it prevent me from continuing and ending the game (and quests)?
Is it necessarry to join a guild before entering the 2nd chapter (talking to Lord Hagen)?

I thank you in advance for your answers.

I don't get why you wouldn't want to join a guild in chapter one? If you join one in chapter two, you'll miss out on the "chapter one quests" of that guild.

Still, if you want to you can refrain from joining a guild in chapter 1 you can lay it off until chapter 3, where Xardas requires you to go to the next highest level your guild offers before helping the other wizards to repair the Eye of Innos.

And for that little guard problem, you can enter the garden of the house and go to the right side of the building (seen form the fountain). There you are out of sight of the two guarding Paladins. Now, if you have the sneaking skill, activate it and sneak into the house behind the back of the right guard. This is a lot less dangerous and a lot cheaper than arousing their anger.

Thanks for your help, guys - I'll first try only to get the last chalice, and after that, I might speak to Lord Hagen.
And you can be certain that I will post the results in this forum (if they'll be satisfying, of course).
