I find your opinions very encouraging! Thanks for all the great responses! Here is what i think. CRPGs will exist as long as the civilized world uses computers. The only thing i can come up with that could possibly end the computer game revolution would be a devastating disaster on a global scale that wipes out either the people or the computers, although i try to believe that wont happen, ever. At some point, maybe computer and console entertainment will replace television to a large extent. I hope so, since we only use half our brains when watching television, and RPGs (true ones) require more brains than, say, Diablo does. Really, i dont believe Diable is a true RPG, i think it is a mostly brainless activity. I mean how much brains does it take to click a mouse? LOL. But let me get back to the subject at hand. I agree that CRPGs will last far into the future, and that MMORPGs -- hey, i love those as well -- will NOT destablize all single-player ventures. There are plenty of people who do not have broadband, and/or do not care to interact with real persons that much. In fact, when i play MMORPGs, i am usually a solo-er. I find that some of the hardcore MMORPGers are total jerks, and that being said, as i am not a jerk, i play the big MMOs because i love their massive scale. And i play by myself until i get lonely enough to venture into town and yell at the top of my voice, "I AM THE KING OF THIS LAND! ALL LURIKEENS BOW DOWN TO ME!" And of course i am roleplaying but most people are like, "Woah. That dude is weird. " And of course i have no problems really, i just like to make a funny enterance and then leave ASAP. It really pays off when somebody sends me a tell saying "LOL." Et cetera. So basically i go to town to buy and sell, alone, and then i leave to get back to hunting, alone. However, one of the coolest things (this is of course debatable) is when i actually feel sociable (which is RARE) and i accidently make a new friend or two (with really cool people, not the jerks), and possibly join a guild and become friends with a whole lot of peoples... Man this is really turning into a divergent rant! What was i saying? oh yeah: MMORPGs will be prolific for a while, and when things die down more i expect a resurgence of single-player CRPGS in a big way. Anyways, thanks for all yer comments, they are appreciated. ![](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) _________________

Definately NOT. If anything RPGs are finally pushing up to consume the FPS genre, and even as a long playing FPS fan I have to say I welcome the move.
The fact is depth and involved complex gaming is what PCs are for, Deus Ex began something which I think Deus Ex II will finish, effectively killing the FPS as we know it and opening a new road for RPG style games to take over where the FPS market left off.
Lets face it, I have seen enough mindless blast everything style FPS games to last me a lifetime, I almost cant stand them any more
At the moment I am aquainting myself with the RPG world and have been pleasantly surprised, while not perfect they certainly have more longevity, imagination and depth than anything the FPS market has offered for a long time.
I really hope Deus Ex II cleans house and sets a standard that will kill of the mideless "war clone" ideals of the FPS market swamp forever because I cant take anymore
In the meantime I will stay away until either Doom 3, Deus Ex II, or DNF comes out, because I cant see anything else there that isnt the same old **** different cover ![](images/smiles/icon_frown.gif) |
