I haven't tried demo just because I thought it won't even open on my comp. So, what do ya think?

Sorry. I hate to say that. G2 is a "heavy-duty" game, and I don't think the game will even run on your computer. Yes, the game might run fine in the forest, but the game will be VERY jerky and slow in the city. (i.e. tons of NPC in the city => tons of AI code => tons of processing power)

By the way, here are the minimum hardware requirements for G2, taken from Gothic 2 German FAQ:

Minimum Hardware Requirements

Windows 98/ME/2000/XP
Pentium III 700 MHz or higher, or equivalent (compare to Cel2 600MHz)
256 MB RAM (compare to 128 MB RAM)
DirectX 8.1 and Direct3D compatible video card with 32 MB RAM
DirectX compatible sound card
2.2 GB Hard disk space
Mouse & Keyboard

IMHO, your video card is fine (though not optimal). You should upgrade your CPU (at least 1.2 GHz) and add some RAM (at least 512 MB) before even consider running the game.

P.S. Sorry. I'm not a computer guru so can't help you much. Hopefully some experts from the forum can help you more.
P.P.S. Sorry for the lengthy post.

If you want to upgrade just let us know.

Many on the forum are computer experts. This is what I see as your upgrade path though:

New motherboard: 80$
Athlon XP: $60-200, depending on processor speed
512MB PC2700 DDR RAM: $105
New Antec case: $85 or an Antec 330watt true power supply: $53
I wouldn't use your current power supply for a newer system.

Reuse your harddrive, CD, DVD, CDRW, floppy, modem, mouse, keyboard, video, monitor, maybe soundcard? most newer mobo's have built in sound and LAN.

Thx for help!

Oh well...I guess I'll have to upgrade my comp. I need good comp also for 3D modelling.

Here is what I have in mind:

Athlon XP 2000+ (or something similar)
And about 512mb DDR ram (and probably later another 512mb).
Good, but cheap motherbord
new, khm, powersupply (don't remember correct word for this part of HW)

wow, I was just looking at prices. 512 DDR PC2700 is cheaper then 512 SDR? WTF?yabadabaduuuuuuu!!!

Can anyone recomand very cheap, but still good motherbord for this CPU?

What part of the world do you live in?

Good brands for motherboards are:

Gigabytye(Personal favorite)
MSI
ASUS
Epox

Get this motherboard for an XP processor: GIGABYTE GA-7VAX
If you require firewire, sata(not really important yet) then you might want to look at a different model. If your going to spend over $160 on your processor I would get an Intel 2.4B instead.

Good link for comparing processors:

Wait till the very last moment. Intel will lower the CPU prices 2 times before April. New mainboards, harddisks and graphics cards are on the way. The stuff is getting cheaper every day.

Hi, I am new in this forums. You said that the system requirement are terrible. I got Celeron 900Mhz, 384MB RAM and GeForce 4 Ti 4200. Can I play Gothic 2?

A Celeron? Ouch.
You would run GII poorly, as my first guess. I'd upgrade to at least 1.8 Ghz and buy another 128-256 RAM module. Your graphics card is impressive, I would leave that in.

Just FYI for those forum surfers out there
I tried the demo on a:
950 Mhz Athlon XP Pro
384 MB DDR RAM
128 MB GeForce 4 Ti 4200

It ran smoothly until I got to the town...then my cpu gave out on me (its 3 years old )

Thank you for replying Arxenn.

I'd like to play the GII demo also, but I'm not managed to find English version of GII demo. Is there a English version?

I have Athlon 2000XP+, Geforce4 Ti4200 and 512 RAM. I just tried German demo and it runs very very fast in maximum settings, although I don't know a bit of german I killed some sheeps and wolves

Btw my friend has Athlon 1400, 256 ram and Radeon 7200. Would he be able to run it??

Now, if you people would stop bragging, I think we all could be happy, not that it won't run exelent on my computer, but does everyone really have to know? And I played Gothic I and the Gothic II Demo on Xpprof, and it works perfectly well

During Demo

i downloaded the German Demo and tryin to play it, my system is Amd Athlon Processor , i have 3 256 ddr ram memory chips windows 2000 pro, service pack3, Monitor card is a Voodoo 3 Duel monitor Card,

I can say the world is beautiful and textured wonderfully, but with all i have in my system it crashes falls out if i switch from teh game to windows it crashes with access violation, i can't have the view higher 800 by 600 by 16 or it freeze the second i'm out side X's Castle, and when it comes to the view i have to have it set to 20% or it freeze's up ??? questions questions i'm hope'n when i go to buy the game when it comes out that it'll do better

It won´t be better, rather the opposite. The full version is slower than the demo because more NPCs and world details are loaded.
Your graphics card is the eye of the needle. A Voodoo3 is ~as slow as a GeForce2 MX. Cards of this class are hardly fast enough for Gothic 1 because they lack fillrate and/or memory performance. I played Gothic on a Voodoo5-5500. It was okay, but not that fast.
Gothic II uses texture resolutions up to 1024*1024, Gothic had 256*256. As I understand Voodoo cards were optimized for 256*256 or smaller textures. The increased texture resolutions knocks your card out.

Thanks dude i'll try it, when i was playing gothic it ran fine on my voodoo i never lagged never crashed, i had all the setting to high , so i couldn't understand why the demo of gothic 2 would crap me out, and i know one thing that english subtitles thing i downloaded was nice lol i found if i keep the texture down, and the water and wind down it goes pretty nice, my only other problem is why it doesn't remember when i up the brightness cause its dark as night sitting in a celler with no lights
