Ascension Peak blocked...Rapax Castle full of locked doors..

I imagine one of those locked doors leads to Ascension Peak? If anyone knows their way around this riddle I'd love to hear it. I've exhausted all options; being in and out of the Rapax world repeatedly (even fought the Rapax's in the Templer Camp -- and lost!)...however, havin' taken it upon myself to destroy every evil Rapax in sight, I killed the guy who was probably supposed to hire me as an initiate. I even took out Al-Sedexus before she could put a word in (and I know because I re-loaded later and found out she's quite intoxicated in her speech and then disappears). Either way, I have both games still loaded. Though I don't think there's anyway to become an initiate now -- not that I really want to anyway. Though is it somehow necessary to reach Ascension Peak?

Anything you can give, guys, I'll appreciate!

yah, you gotta keep on fooling around in the Castle. The way to the Peak is in "Upper Rapax Castle". Much nicer to be a Templar, at least until you get all the goodies you can from a certain Merchant...

I usually kept a portal set near that particular merchant. I even cast heals on him when he'd get mixed up in one of my fights just to make sure he survived. He's a great source of high-end missles (arrows, stones, and such) among other things.

Sounds like I'm screwed. Ferro, the merchant, died in a previous battle. I'm about ready to turn my team into mere wanderers with no hope of ever leaving the planet...then again, I don't want to leave anyway.

Hey, dteowner, thanks for the good, honest laugh! That crying icon sure made it even better. And thanks for your help in the past. As of now, I'm starting out with a new team...and this time, I'm going to pull my punches (not kill every NPC who deserves it, except that New York rat wandering the wilderness...what's his name?). And I must say, the good thing about Wizardry8 -- as if there are no other good things? -- is that starting over again is actually better than the first and second time around. Now I know how to get around previous, ANNOYING!, frustrations in a breeze. Unlike a marriage, this game actually gets better and better with each resurrection. God damn, someone did a good job!

You're talking to the king of restarts. Otter is our resident champ for finishing the game (14 wins IIRC), but I'd bet I've got him beat for restarts. I've taken more parties to Arnika or Trynton than I can keep track of anymore. I've only got two wins, with a group headed for the sea caves. Right now I'm messing with Morrowind (only 4 restarts so far), so I'm not making much progrss with my Wiz8 crew, but I'll be back. I think, overall, Wiz8 holds more long-term interest for me than Morrowind. I prefer the character development of Wiz8. With Morrowind, you can be a master of everything (given the time and desire). With Wiz8, no single character becomes dominant- the party must balance individual skills.

Hah! Didn't think i had the most--it's an 'even' 15 now. I'm just working on two more, what i'll consider--for the way i play--the ideal Party of 3 and of 5. These are based on taking some time for practise, and the Party of 3 relies on PP. They are:

Rawulf Lord, Mook Ranger, and Felpurr Bard-to-Ninja (L10, 1 Rogue level)
and
Mook Bard-to-Fighter, Rawulf Lord, Hobbit Samurai, Elf Monk, and Elf Bishop

It's been interesting comparing; one team levels fast, the other can specialize more.
They're mostly based on the advantages of their Bonus skills and what weapons are available, and also on fulfilling a list of nice-to-have Buffs and other skills.
(The Bard-to-Ninja is for continuing PP & L&T development, and in a Trio it's not very hard for the Combat to be good in spite of the switch)

You playing with the patch, otter? I thought PP was pretty much dead post-patch...

Heh! my disks came with patch 1. AP works, but so does PP. There are some other interesting phenomena, like endless Brekeks. There are also some tendencies to crash i can barely live with that go away if i use the latest patch...PP works on the latest one, you just can't Shoplift, or they'll bust you when you come back. Nor can you build PP skill by cleaning NPC's out on the first visit--you gotta keep coming back every time your stats go up. For which you keep needing ever more successes. You end up making a circuit of all the places with PP victims. Portal anyone?
