Do you have to stick with one or the other?

Let me see if I have this right. Strength is for melee and dexterity is for ranged weapons? Right? So are you best sticking with one or the other or is doing both ok?

You've gotta get some sword/strength or your just going to have a hell of a time fighting some monsters in the biginning. At least I did anywayt

just kill all the scavengers and molerats and animals and you l get enough skill points to not worry
