Where is the Grimoire Beta Version?

That's exactly the question that is put in yesterday's Grimoire site update (thanks, Sandy). Nah, you didn't expect a date for it, did you? *g*. Here's what Cleve has to say:

The other night I was playing through the Grimoire beta and I thought, I should really give this one last final examination to see if I can eliminate every single possible bug before I turn it over for a public and private beta test.

Well, the next thing I knew it was midnight and I had accumulated a list of over 270+ things I should do before I release the Grimoire beta test. Sorry. Honest, that's what happened. Some of these things were amazingly small tweaks I made on the spot and others were a little more complex, some of them are jobs for an entire day.

This beautiful and intriguing character to the right is The Entity. He's an interdimensional traveler who wanders the multiverse seeking dramatic situations to document and observe. He is drawn to our quest in Grimoire because of the possibilities for conflict and he is capable of helping us in spite of himself in several places in the game. I wrote the dialogue and background story for this character back in 1996 as part of the overall scenario for the game. I created him in Poser in 30 minutes last night and animated him with about 8 frames. He turned out terrific and pretty much exactly as I imagined him. It's so nice to see the game I envisioned coming together ... albeit six years late and still rife with delays.

Grimoire is getting done. I know it may be hard to believe but it is inching forward night after night each week towards completion. Soon there will be a beta and almost immediately after that comes out it will be possible to predict accurately when it will be released.
Well, after 8 years, this is so ... predictable

I was there

I remember the flamewars involving Cleve and Derek Smart in the comp.sys.ibm.pc.game.rpg usenet feed from back in the day. Seems the Cleve detractors were right all along.
Give it up Cleve.

Which game will be released first, (if any), Grimoire or Duke Nukem Whenever?

Ozymandias

E) None of the above.

Does anyone else realize that the Shadows of Winter "mod" for Dungeon Siege is also becoming an industry joke? Dungeon Siege 2 was recently announced and the mod is still in development.

Grimoire will never happen... too bad... I'd love to play a new old game.

For some strange, obscure reason, I always seem to be coming to poor Cleve's defence. Perhaps because we live in the same city and we're both transplanted Canucks. I actually think this game will appear one day and I'll buy it for my grandchildren. The fact that my own kids are still in high school, should not be interpreted in any way as a negative comment on this assuredly (by Cleve) wonderful game!!

The thing that worries me- let's say (after years and years and years) the game finally gets released. What if it totally blows? It seems to me that even the "Graphics? We don't need no stinkin graphics" old school RPGers are going to have to be lenient with this one. What if the gameplay simply isn't there? How bad will Cleve be butchered then? It will be worse than the Daikatana lynch mob...

This game has the potential to be very good or very amaturish.

The guy worked for Sir tech on wizardry 7 and the game looks older tech than that.

I might enjoy playing it a lot. But I wouldnt pay full retail price for it, and I'm a rpg nut. There are just too many games that old that I missed such as eye of the beholder or etc, some of them are even abandonware.

I'm not sure what I'm saying, other than I am interested in the game. But like most people I just wonder who is going to buy it?
