Ultima X Odyssey Unveiling Report @ RPG Vault

RPG Vault have written a report covering EA's recent event unveiling Ultima X. It's part description of the event and part preview of the game:
Many attendees seemed to want to see a sequel to Ultima Online, but Odyssey is not that at all. In a number of critical ways, it's actually closer to the final standalone title, Ultima IX: Ascension. Senior Producer Rick Hall emphasized this when he stated clearly that "It's not UO; it's something different - we're trying to go for a different experience." Essentially, the new game is being developed as a sister to the current online world, one that will target people who may not have enjoyed or even tried the original. While players may choose to cross over, the team's goal is to attract and grow a new audience while still expanding and supporting Ultima Online.

Call me old-fashioned, but the old marketing slogan comes to mind, "give the people what they want"! After all the up-roar at the demise of the UO2 project, surely it would be good marketing to have drawn a link between the two.

Instead, there appears to be great effort being expended on trying to link UIX with this game. Considering the resounding success UIX was (NOT!), I question the wisdom of this approach.

If this game plays like the article states, I may finally play an online game!
Nothing online has ever sounded remotely interesting to me, but this does.
I'm all about exploration and personal growth. The avatar system sounds extremely interesting. It sounds like they're trying to rebuild Ultima IV with
several aspiring avatars. Bravo!
