DOOM 3 Release Date Revealed? |
|
quote:
Gamespot.com is reporting that they have found out from a "reliable source" that Activision plans on releasing DOOM 3 on April 15th 2004. Although the only date to be revealed form id Software was "when it's done", there was the knowledge that it would be released in Activisions 2005 fiscal year which begins in April 2004. Whether this release date is true or not remains to be seen but GameSpot seems pretty sure of themselves. When we learn more about this "date" we will be sure to let you all know.
Update: The page that had reported the release date at Gamespot has disappeared somewhere. I think it's safe to assume someone wasn't happy with it being posted.

W00t! *does his happy dance*
It's likely to be yet another unfounded claim... but if it really is true, that means it's time to start shopping around for my new computer! _________________ Charlie Dobbie

I thought that doom 3 was released ages ago. Or was that final doom and doom 3 is a different game ? _________________ R.I.P "Dimebag" Darrell Lance Abbott

Last year there was a leak (by ATI) of an alpha build of Doom 3 - is that what you're thinking of?
No, Final Doom (and Ultimate Doom) were extensions of the original game. Doom II was a separate game using much the same technology but with a few tweaks and, of course, whole new levels. Id Software then went on to produce the Quake series of games, but towards the end of development of Quake 3 Arena the decision was made to return to the Doom franchise.
Now, over 10 years since the release of the original Doom, Doom 3 is about to appear:

Nice, Doom 3 and Half Life 2 are the FPS I want the most. One thing though, 4 players MAX in multiplayer in Doom 3??? WHAT were they THINKING? _________________ Like some bold seer in a trance;

*shrug* It's primarily a single-player game. Lowering the number of players allowed in the multiplayer aspect really reduces the complexity of the network code, thus reducing development time, reducing amount of testing required, and probably reducing the number of patches that will ultimately come out.
I expect id intend to focus the Quake series on the multiplayer aspect from now on - wait for Quake 4 if you want a next-gen multiplayer game. _________________ Charlie Dobbie

According to ActionTrip, the Gamespot article was removed after complaints from Activision. Of course, whether that proves it's true or false is another thing. *g* _________________ Editor @ RPGDot |

When Doom will come, I will certainly need to buy new PC. And because I currently have not enough money, I hope Doom will wait several months :]. |

I am sure this game will be out soon...like 2 to 3 months. ID is doing interviews(Gamepro etc.). Also, in the last month they put up an officialsite... www.doom3.com. They let people publicly beta-test multiplayer at last years quakecon. Multiplayer is the last aspect they work on for Doom...
When ID does this...it is done.
So besides droolin' over the trailers, I am playing ALL the old Doom levels to prepare for a HELLISH game experience.
Also, they want to get this game out before Half Life 2 & Halo 2. Trust me, the wait is over!!! _________________ Between the years when the oceans drank Atlantis and the gleaming cities…there was an Age undreamed of, when shining kingdoms lay spread across the world like blue mantles beneath the stars…Hither came Conan, the Cimmerian, black-haired, sullen-eyed, sword in hand…to tread the jeweled thrones of the Earth under his sandaled feet. - Robert E.
