@Lintra: I guess just rotten luck

@Jaz- The swords in general have some of the lesser arcanum's most dramatically "bad news" cards. Like the 9. This isnt a card I want ='.'=

@Sam - If I recall correctly (and Jaz, PLEASE correct me if'n I'm wrong), the 9 of swords may not be all that bad depending on it's placement. In addition, if reversed I recall it is actually quite a positive card ... but i have to admit that it does look a little gruesome *grin*

Depending on placement and direction (upright or rx) and what you personally make of it (which is IMO the most important aspect), nearly every card may be good or bad.
The 9 of Swords may mean anything from despair over depression and fearing the worst to keeping one's eyes shut. It all depends on the above said things.

And I doubt Sam got his card the 'normal' way . Just compare the urls...

@ Sam: I like the Swords as a suit. Stormy weather. But personally I abhor the 3 of Swords.

You have to ask yourself what that poor guy did. I mean they killed the bejesus outta him. Even Caesar only rated three daggers!

He must have run over someone's granny, puppy, children, house, and flower garden with a steamroller.

Perhaps he could be considered the "Keeper Of The Swords" ='.'=

@Jaz- Yes, #3 isnt a real good one either.

When I used to be into this type of thing, I read them a certain way that is sort of unconventional, but I and my circle of friends thought it was valid. I didnt ever reverse them or anything like that. The cards have enough meaning by themselves straight up, reversing them or juxtaposing them in any way only lends more confusion to an already abstract definition, IMHO.

The cards are whatever you make of them... however you feel comfortable to use them. I don't use reversed cards, either, but some people want to, so for them it's a valid approach.
