Do Reviews Influence Sales? @ Gamasutra |
|
A really interesting article and one that dovetails nicely with the discussion earlier in the week about reviews...not that they cover the same ground but it adds something to the general discussion of reviews.
The new issue of the Susquehanna Financial Group's Video Game Journal contains an in-depth analysis of the correlation, or lack thereof, between video game review scores and the resulting performance at retail. According to the authors of the study, Jason Kraft and Chris Kwak, there is little relationship between a game's critical and commercial reception.
You can read the rest of the snippet at Gamasutra. I'm rather hoping that they'll link to the full study in the next several days. |

Absolutely.
Back before online reviews when we had to wait for the next issue of PC Gamer, reviews made or broke game sales.
Now, even more, reviews and forum madness affect sales. |

Yeah, I agree. I always go to some game related website (Such as gamespot or ign) and I look for reviews of games before I try them. Some of the reviews are loyal to my subjective view, some are not.
But definitly, reviews affect sales. _________________ "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing" -Edmund Burke. Mentioned in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. |
