Kult: Review @ Fragland

A fairly harsh review for 3D People's 'Kult: Heretic Kingdoms' is available at Fragland. The score is 66% and along the way you'll learn some new words:
Kult: Heretic Kingdoms is an action RPG with a strong storyline, a reasonably original attunement system and a couple of small characteristic features. The good intentions however, are completely outdone by lousy finishing. It's a hard verdict for this debute title from 3D People, but you just can't go around the bugs and multiple small irritations in the game. Without these unpunctualities from the release, Kult certainly could have been a decent average game without shining in any specific part.
It's worth noting that the bag/inventory problems were largely solved with the first patch.

True, but I mention clearly this review is based on what you see in the retailversion, as it should be with all reviews is it not? And even if the most remarkable crashbugs were solved there is still the quite boring combat part and the short playtime. Supporting small developers for having the courage to make an (action) rpg is one thing (a thing that needs to be done a lot more , surely), telling what a game really has to offer is another if you ask me. The (linear) story and the original things didn't compensate for the irritating issues in my view.

Yes, you did mention it was based on the original retail version...and I thought it worth mentioning that most of these issues were resolved fairly promptly by 3D People.

I disagree that reviews should always be based on the unpatched retail version -- but that's perfectly fine; diversity makes the world go round. Personally, I find it much more useful to know that a game had some initial issues that were resolved (or not, for that matter).

retail version

It is sometimes hard to tell what is the retail version of the game anyway, the EU version is 1.0 with the mentioned bugs, but for example the game released later in other countries like US is in higher version with most of the bugs removed
