The Graveyard - runes on tombstones?

Hi guys! Ken from Norway here.
I've been playing Wizardry 8 for a couple of days. It's a great game, but I'm a bit puzzled about the blue runes on five of the tombstones in the graveyard.
Does anyone know what the runes do? There is a sound when I click on them, but nothing happens as far as I can tell.
I have the strategy guide, but it says nothing about this.

Thank you for the hints, but could you be more specific, please?
What sharp items? Swords or what?
Btw, is there anything I can do with the suspended lich (or whatever it is)?

Ok, spoiler ahead:

quoted from Val

There are 6 'runes' in the Graveyard in the Arnika-Trynton road, 6 'runes' in the Mountain Wilderness, and 6 'runes' in the Northern Wilderness. Touching all six makes a nearby item require a specific item. Put in the item, and look for the new mushroom patch nearby. Enter the Dungeon and have fun!

Cemetety - Dagger, place it right in the corner of the cemetary.
Mountain Wilderness - Long Sword, placed in the altar surrounded by the circle of runestones.
Northern Wilderness - Short Staff.

OK, another spoiler to answer your other question:
(It's not critical to the game, so don't read it if you don't want to.)

Drop a potion of holy water into the pit underneath.

Thanks a lot guys!
I'll go back to the graveyard later.
I've just finished the Rattkin-tree and have entered the swamps, so I guess I have a lot of stuff to do before returning to the graveyard.

OOps! bad news, Ken, the rune puzzle won't work if you start it and then leave the zone it's in without fully activating it. But don't worry, there's nothing you need in any of them, and nothing really useful in the Graveyard one. The extra dungeons are fun, and the other two have some nice stuff, so it's not like you need them, but don't miss them.

Really? I've never heard that before. On the other hand, I've never left the zone...

Yah, if you don't touch all six runes and sacrifice the object to create the mushroom patch, just touching any of the runes and then leaving the zone will destroy the puzzle.

Retro Dungeons

You'll find maps to all three "retro" dungeons at http://wiz8.web1000.com/RetroMaps.html and if you click on a map it will take you to step-by-step instructions on how to activate access to that dungeon, or you can click on the following to read them directly;

http://wiz8.web1000.com/CemeteryWalkthrough.html
http://wiz8.web1000.com/NorthernWalkthrough.html
http://wiz8.web1000.com/MountainWalkthrough.html

--------------------
Visit http://wiz8.web1000.com/ to download a spreadsheet that allows you to enter in your spellcasters current stats, and the spreadsheet will tell you what spells the character can learn, or for spells that they are not yet able to learn, it will tell you how many points you need, or why your character can't learn the spell.

TheRaven, yeah sadly this is a known issue, just replace the http_www bit with http://www.metaspinner.net/cgi-bin/nph-spinnerproxy.cgi/110110A/http/wiz8.web1000.com/ and you'll get everything.

<<The web service provider classes Germany, Poland and Japan (and possibly others) all as non-English countries and therefore blocks there access, dumb idea I think, but there it is, they didn't tell me this until after I'd set up my web site, anyway the link above bypasses the problem>>
