ToEE Review @ Worthplaying

Funny how pre-hyped games turn out to be solid, but not outstanding games. I remember people smashing Lionheart after its release and praising ToEE, telling people to wait for that. Now, the latter gets lukewarm reviews all over the place as well. One of the more positive ones, without being too enthusiastic, is now up at Worthplaying, summing up at 7.8/10 points and this conclusion:
If it wasn’t for the bugs, this game would be a shoe-in for an Editors Choice award. Unfortunately, the bugs show a lack of polish and that the game was rushed out the door. What the game really needed was another 2-3 months of tweaking, and if it had had that time this would have been a much better game. I have certainly played bug-free games I’ve enjoyed less. The bugs aside, Elemental Evil is a welcome, faithful, adaptation of the D&D rules. No other game as yet has come as close to really feeling like traditional D&D as Elemental Evil does. I did enjoy playing it and once you get over the learning curve and the bugs, you’ll find an exciting adventure ahead of you!
So, the game has potential, but is not polished, something very common these days

Garrett-

I could not agree with you more about people bashing a new game, praising an upcoming game, then bashing the new game when it comes out.

We gamers never cease to amaze me. We'll follow a game litterally for years, living in agony waiting for its release, only to be extremely dissapointed and vehemently express our displeasure when it's released and doesn't meet our expectations.

I have stopped following games so closely. I've found that a game NEVER lives up to my expectations when I follow it like it's my child. Now I just pay attention to what's out and what's coming out and its made my gaming life much, much better.

ToEE could have been a classic if it had been shipped in a more stable form. I'm just not going to do anything with the game until it fixed now.

Talking of which, where IS the patch that was going to be shipped before the end of October? Does it seem like that Atari/Troika have fooked up again...?

Any comment from the guilty parties yet?

...And I'm guilty of double posting too - Dang.

Really, is there any sign of the damn patch yet (*sniff, sniff*) ?
