leveling up Mage for Gothic 2 +Addon |
|
I'm going to play a Mage through the game with the addon. I know it is suppose to be real tough, so I want to make sure I use my LP effeciantly. I want to use magic as much as possible and use weapons for emergency times only.
Questsions:
1- Should I train Melee weapons? and how much?
2- 1H or 2H? I'm thinking of 2H because of the Staffs added from the Addon.
3- Should I level up my Attributes at all, other then Mana? If so, which ones and how much?
4- How about other skills? Trophies, Sneaking, Lockpicking, Pickpocketing. Don't I need some trophy skills to make some runes? If so which tropheis should I take?
What I am also really interested in is what skills and attributes should I level up before I join the mages, and how much? |

"Don't I need some trophy skills to make some runes? If so which tropheis should I take? "
Oh, now I know what you mean, yes but as I recall you can purchase most needed ones from the guy in the upper quarter.
Otheriwse its like Golem Hearts, Troll Tooth and such just look it up in the rune recipes.
I dont think so, trophies are just for money, so at minium I would suggest Bosper and Skinning to help with money sine its 3 to 5 lp (if I recall) and you will be killing them anyway.
You might want to ask what the avaerage level is maybe 50 or so an figure out how many LP you will have extra after you get the mana you want.
If I recall Strength and Dexterity are cheaper before you join the Monastary.
So maybe learning I backup Sword or Bow would be possible, thou dont forget Runes cost more LP now so higher level like 6th might cost 20 to 30 LP each thou I really can not remember at the moment.
There does seem to be a flaw/bug in the game, turns out arrows do normal damage to all creatures even stone golems.
I was very shocked to find this since Gothic 2 before the NotR was added you had to use a hammer on stone golems (at least that I remember).
Something strange with the Ice golems as well I fired Fireballs at them and they did almost no damage (could barely see any damage on the health bar) then I fired a arrow and did almost 1/3 damage with one arrow, weird.
So the damage calcuations seem really flawed in the addon. |

Done this myself so I should be able to answer your questions, let's see.
1- Should I train Melee weapons? and how much?
Expert 1H weapon
2- 1H or 2H? I'm thinking of 2H because of the Staffs added from the Addon.
Nope, use the new rapiers. They give great bonuses and require very little dexterity to use. You might want to go with 2H staffs because of the staffs as you say, and because they do damage to stone golems etc, though. Never tried it, but it's worth a shot perhaps.
The reason I do not use 2h weapons with a mage is that you require 60% in order to use it well(master) while the 1H combo at 30%(expert) is easy and fast compared to 30% of 2H.
3- Should I level up my Attributes at all, other then Mana? If so, which ones and how much?
Dex in order to use a few of the rapiers. Up to 20 and the first rapier should do, you will get a lot more skills here than in the original because of the new stone tablets.
4- How about other skills? Trophies, Sneaking, Lockpicking, Pickpocketing. Don't I need some trophy skills to make some runes? If so which tropheis should I take?
Skip all of that, BUT you do need the new "language" skill you can get from the water mages. This will enable you to read stone tablets you find, that give permanent boosts to mana, attributes etc.
Also, you should note a few changes that Acle here has missed.
In the add-on the skillpoint system is COMPLETELY redone. This means that whatever guild you choose do not effect how much a skill costs. Instead, it is determined by your skill level(1-30 costs 1sp per level, 30-60 costs 2, 60-90 costs 3, 90-120 costs 4, and 120 up costs 5). Can you see the problem in reaching 250 mana? 130 skill points from 120-250 all costing 5 times the normal rate is a total of 650 skillpoints, or 65 levels. The level cap is around 40, so 65? Can't be done. So how to do it?
Save the stone tablets and mana boosting potions. Get alchemy, and spend every kings sorrel to make mana boosting potions. When you reach a certain lvl in mana(100 or so), use all the tablets and potions(they still give normal mana boost, instead of 5 per 1 point like skillpoints do). This way you can get 250 or even 300 with the right equipment.
If you have any other questions, just ask. In the game, be sure to save a lot, and ask if you want any questions - it is extremely difficult with a mage through the add-on, so be careful(it is also very fun!). |
