Two things -

1. Make sure you're facing flush against the wall.
2. You must realise that the teleport spell takes about a full 4 or 5 seconds to complete. Are you sure you're holding down Action-Forward long enough for the spell to finish?

Alcopops is right.
I tried it twice and started to think, that it doesnt work, but...
It really takes several moments, you must hold use button.
Also this is important:
If you have enough max mana points to use something (scroll, rune), you can use it even if you have not enough current mana.
It means spells which takes several seconds use your mana continuously. So if this spell costs f. e. 10 mana points and you have just 8, you can start to cast it, but closely to end, it will stop and it does nothing...

No vital spell in the game takes more than the default 5 mana you begin with though, so just make sure you have 5 mana ready to burn on the spell.

When you use that spell, if you were like me and had not upped your max mana level, you have to hold down the use button combo.. while doing this, you will see your mana bar go down, down, down..and then you will teleport..

And as for vital spells not being over 5 mana..what about the quest for that one focus stone where you are supposed to use telekinesis..isn't that a 10 max mana spell??

You don't need telekinesis. It's kinda tricky, but you can make the jump over (and you don't need acrobatics).
