For anyone who owns or has played halflife, you'll know that its an extremely adaptable engine. Now, it WOULD be possible to bring gothic onto this engine. The only real downside would be the lack of the large enviroments. everything else however (including the combat system and mage/magic systems) could be brought into halflife witha mixture of a particle engine and sprite effects, its probably possible to make even more impressive effects than gothic its self has.
The only real thing that would be neaded in such a conversion would be the player and weapon models within gothic, converted into halflifes MDL format. The rest would be done code wise, (a friend of mine originally were going to do a third person magic based mod for halflife but after playing gothic, and seeing all the trouble and time it could save us, plus with the added elemnt of the gothic theme coud prove to be really fun).

So, basically, i want to know if there would be any interest for such a mod. It would be in a third person perspective and behave pretty well just like gothic does, and for the most part, look like gothic (except the huge outdoor levels).

Right now there are two obstacles from making such a project possible.

1. Copyright problems. I dont know if pirana bytes would like us taking the models from gothic and using them in another game.

2. The mod kit is all in german, we need somoene capable of translating it properly, those translation programs only work so well, they tend to get alot of sutff mixed.

Post here and let me know, i do have experience in mod development, i am the current head of a starship troopers mod for halflife aswell which has been in production for some time now. Comments? Ideas? Think this is terrible? let me know

ah yea, me being the fps slut that i am, im also hardcore CS player
i know the halflife engine can be well minipulated (look at dod2) but gothic? i doubt it, the halflife engine isnt that good, its old and rickidy, not nice fps and not good graphics

You people really underestimate the halflife engine, asfar as actual texture rendering goes, halflifes quality doesnt differ much from gothics.

You should see some of the stuff me and the coder i work with have been able to do
we've been able to pull off speicla effects 30x better than any mod you've seen for halflife without and big FPS hit

CS is horrible by the way, dod is much better

DOD is what CS should have been, DOD creates a differnet enviroment moreso than CS does. And cs was the mod known for 'not playing like normal hallfife'

DoD is surely not better than CS, though it has better graphics etc. The gameplay and especially teamplay is uncomparably worse than CS.
(not just my opinion, but opinion of large part of HL/CS fans I know)

teamplay?!!?! IN CS!?!??!!?!?!?!?

CS lost its temaplay factor a LONG time ago, DOD is a thousand times more teamplay oriented than CS ever will be

I hate CS. Boring, boring, boring.
I love DoD. Fun, fun, fun.
