Well Mage, it was good (or bad!) enough for a mainstream band to cover. In fact you prolly never would have even known about it had they not covered it, so dont worry your pretty little head too much over it.
definitely a cult classic
Iced Earth - Declaration Day
NOFX is not mainstream. But thank you for the compliment about my head. And yes, I would have heard of it because my friend is a Misfits fan.

Iced Earth - High Water Mark
Ammon, dont feel bad I just recently discovered Iced Earth myself. Im listening to their latest at work as we speak.
I highly recommend "The Glorious Burden", their newest. But if you end up getting this one, spend the extra ten bucks or so and get the bonus disc #2, which is in my opinion better than cd#1!
Ive listened to it far more than #1, it's unbelievable. There are about 3 instrumental symphonic parts tying all the songs together, among them a great mournful dual-guitar maiden-like dirge of "Glory, Glory Hallelujah".
The majority of "Glorious Burden" is about US history, primarily the Civil War, but it does also go into The Red Baron and Attila the Hun for a couple songs.
Musically, they shred, and are sound musicians. The vocals are good, but also a tad of a problem for me at times. Most of the metal I listen to doesnt follow the chorus-driven formula, these songs kinda go intro/beginning/chorus/middle/chorus/end/chorus/finish. The vocal chorus' are harmonized and border on sounding like classic metal, yet the instruments are a bit heavier like Arch Enemy or In Flames. I like it alot, it's a good departure from the gloom and doom theme. If you like power-ballad style historically themed power metal, Iced Earth's latest will rock ya. Make sure you get the bonus CD tho, I cant stress that enough, its brilliant.
Ok, back to work....
