Final Fantasy 11: Lost in Vana'diel Diary @ Gamespy

The latest episode in Gamespy's Lost in Vaan'diel diary series is up. This one is subtitled My Best Friend's Shredding and talks about the failure of soloing in FFXI:
Call me a jerk, call me a loner, but I really didn't want to have to rely on other players to enjoy Final Fantasy XI. I wanted to experience as much as the game had to offer as I could, alone. I only knew one person in the game, and that was from real-life connections. The prospect of striking up friendships with strangers didn't appeal to me. See? I'm a shy jerk. While I heard that FFXI was not a very solo-friendly game, I thought I'd try my best to go it alone anyway.

Well,I finally decided to order the game and see what all the fuss was about and then I read this.I am a dedicated solo player who will group when absolutely neccesary and anyone saying "then what are you playing a mmorpg for" should know that playing alone does not mean being alone.I like to know other people are around and I also help when and where I can. I just enjoy the "one on one" aspect of battle thats all.Anyway,I guess I will not be too thrilled once I get into the game and start the grind.I'll still give it a go and hope that the leveling is not as slow as this guy says.
