Can't open gate to Varrag-Kasorg switches

The gate closed in front of the three switches to Varrage Kasorg while I was fighting skeletons. Is this to be expected? The walkthrough didn't mention a gate.

Does anyone know if there is a switch to open this gate? Some have suggested that this is a bug and I have to use marvin mode.

Wanted to know if anyone had some info on this.

How did you open the three switches? I can't even open the three? Do I need help from other characters in the story? Or is there a pattern of openning? Please help!
