Better Late Than Never: RPGDot To Cover Sid Meier's Pirates

After careful consideration, we have decided to cover Sid Meier's 'Pirates!' remake here on RPGDot .
Now that release is getting closer, it has become clear that the game has a lot more RPG elements than most of the pseudo-RPGs we are covering.
In fact -despite the absence of some classic RPG elements- it seems like the game allows you to fully role-play a Caribbean pirate's life... though we should probably say the life of a Caribbean pirate as portrayed in all those epic pirate-themed movies.
Role-playing the real life of a Caribbean pirate would probably not be too enjoyable. You'd be sick 99% of the time, suffering from dehydration, scurvy or some other nasty disease and if you'd be "lucky", you'd die at the age of 30 of a natural death instead of getting your throat slit.
Anyway, we hope you don't mind to see some 'Pirates!' news around here from now on. Sail ho!
From a recent GameZone interview...
How are the reputation and skill aspects measured? Are points gained for completing specific tasks, or does the game rate your character by some other means?

Sid: It's not so much a stat-driven version of role-playing as much as it is role-playing your life as a pirate. You will be able to achieve various ranks with the four governments in the game, upgrade your ships, add specialists to your crew, collect items that aid your character in certain situations, and your character will age over time. You can also increase your notoriety and become one of the top pirates in the region by either outdoing the other pirates with your deeds or by besting them in a one-on-one match.

Good decition. Don't let the marketing people decide the definition of an RPG.
