Gothic sales figures?

I searched for topics on how many copies Gothic has sold and found one from January. So how's the situation now?

I guess many people, like me, would really like to know the sales figures for the German and the English versions...

Of course we would like to know them, but sales figures are not publicly available in Germany.

Btw, I started this topic. I didn't notice that I wasn't logged in, I was tired

Gorath:

Then why there is news in gamesites about sales figures all the time? Why would a simple figure about how many copies a game has sold be secret? It's not government stuff or anything

You find charts everywhere, most of them sort company or group related (=local or rather unimportant). Media Control charts, based upon a few thousand POSes, are published once a week. They have to be licensed! The standard edition does NOT include sales figures, only rankings. I donīt know if there is a professional version with exact figures.
Itīs very likely exact data exists, but of course you need someone who pays money and makes them available.
In Germany you only get to know certain milestones, for example VUD awards for 100.000 sold units. Details only for members (=publishers, developers, retailers,...).
Sometimes a publisher provides numbers for his most successful product. JoWooD were pretty excited when 'The Guild' sold 100.000 units within two weeks in the German speaing countries. This was two or three months ago. The top positions change, The Guild is still in the top 5.

Exact numbers are simply not publicly available.
