Fallout: BoS (PS2) Preview @ Gamespot |
|
It almost seems sacreligious posting this...Gamespot has a preview of Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel. Here's a snip:
If you've played Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, you'll quickly notice that Brotherhood of Steel uses the same engine. The menus and all the graphics are different, but the feel and the mechanics of the two games are almost identical. The PS2 and Xbox versions look similar at a glance, though the Xbox version is a little cleaner and sharper. In gameplay terms, the main differences between Fallout and Baldur's Gate is that Fallout features a lot more ranged weapons than Baldur's Gate does (though there are plenty of melee weapons available, too). Also, while there are some special abilities in Fallout, obviously there aren't any magic spells.
|

a petition for fallout 3 won't work, but would a boycott on this game finish interplay for good ?
we gotta call a boycott on that game, make them pay. |

Well I sure as hell won't be buying another Interplay game. I was tempted to get a console, along with BG:DA 1 and 2, and maybe this, but now there is no way. And I'm pretty sure there is a lot of console playing PC gamers who will feel the same way. I've brought every single Black Isle game ever released, even games like Icewind Dale 2 I wasn't sure about, just to support Interplay.
Hostile Waters, Giants, MDK2, Starfleet Academy, Fallout Tactics, Freespace 2 and many more, all Interplay games. Now I'm married, I don't buy half as many games as I used to , but I still would have supported them. Now I couldn't care less. |

I was just going to say "don't buy this piece of junk; boycott Interplay", but happily, it looks like you guys took care of that. |

Look, not buying the only Fallout game left is definitely a step in the wrong direction if you ever want to see a company putting money behind the series again. I mean duh.
In addition, games like this, BA:DA, D&D Heroes, etc are actually a blast when you have geeky friends over and you want to have some two, three, or four-player killfest action. Face it, watching someone else play the best RPG is about 10% as much fun as joining in and cooperatively playing these simpler titles. If games like this disappear, we'll have nothing left but WWII-themed shooters. We're almost there now... |

I would actually love to play this game. I wouldnt buy a console for it.
It is a bad idea though, poorly executed.
Fallout was an adult game, consoles are more for kids and teens. It had drug abuse prostitution and exploding heads.
Sort of different for an crpg.
So the market and fans of fallout are different than this.
It makes sense to make a baldurs gate console game, that is dungeons and dragons. Baldurs gate is more close to console game playing audience, they know about it. No kids know about fallout.
I dont think anyone needs to boycott this game, it will not sell many copies. Even if it is great. |

I'll probably get it. Once it drops in price. _________________ -=Professional Secret Agent=-

Well, If I find a good console bundle when I have the money, and by that time these games (BG : DA 1 & 2, and FOBOS) have been set at a lower price, I may buy them. |

That's some bad reasoning. If people buy this game the only thing we'll get is FO:BOS 2, which will result in Interplay keeping the license. It's not like the brain-dead monkeys at Interplay will greenlight Fallout 3 after they just killed it off after months of work and in the process burned a lot of money for nothing. And do you really think there's anyone competent enough to do Fallout 3 at IPLY after they just pulled the plug on BIS (who really haven't done anything that special after Torment).
Definitely don't buy this game just because it has the Fallout logo slapped on it. Or rather, just don't buy it, period. |
